This year, when the community dances on Simchat Torah, the holiday marking the completion of the annual Torah-reading cycle that begins on Oct. 2, they will be holding scrolls that belong to them.

habad’s Great Sukkot Harvest brought the themes of the holiday to life with a festive autumn experience for all ages.
The Rebbe explains the lesson we can learn from the fact that the culmination of all the festivals of the Tishrei is specifically the “Season of our Rejoicing” and especially Simchat Torah.
The scroll belonged to the Hammerschlag family, who had carried it out of Germany in 1939. It had long since ceased to be valid for public reading. The community used it to show to children, to teach bar mitzvah boys their portions and, once a year, to dance with on Simchat Torah.
