Drivers Please Continue To Be Careful

Once again we are having officers posted around Crown Heights that are pulling people over and ticketing them for whatever they can. Currently there are 2 cops are sitting in front of 770 (the same ones that appeared to be ‘selecting’ their ‘scores’).

A crowed gathered outside 770 and is voicing their objection to this ‘profiling’. Still just wear your seat belt and don’t talk on your cell phone when driving, and just avoid all this.

When young Jews major in anti-Semitism

Los Angeles Times

AMERICAN JEWRY is experiencing a cognitive dissonance the likes of which it has never known.

To illustrate, consider my recent lecture in Virginia Beach, Va.: “Anti-Semitism at the Universities: What Can We Do About It?”

It is very significant that a mainstream (i.e., largely secular and liberal) Jewish organization (the Jewish Community Center) would fly a speaker from across the country to speak on anti-Semitism at universities.

To understand how significant, one must appreciate how much Jews revere the university.

Perv. Seems to have left us

After a violent clash with 2 different groups in one night it seems that this weirdo we’ve had around our neighborhood left.

On Thursday night he was spotted attempting to chat up 2 girls on Union St. and Kingston Ave. when someone walked up to him to ask him what he was doing, he got very loud and aggressive and in return he was treated to a beating. As if that wasn’t enough, a half hour later he parked next to 770 on Kingston Ave. and he spotted someone he had a confrontation with in 770 and went over to him and provoked another fist fight, in which his car lost 2 of its windows. He then filed police reports with descriptions of who attacked him on scene by the police officers, which assured him the matter will be perused.

Now it’s been a few days later and he has yet to be seen, B”H. But if you do see him please call Shomrim @ (718) 774-3333.

Rosh Hashana in Monroe, Louisiana

Lubavitch.com

What do you give to a community who has lost a good portion of their material possessions, along with their homes, jobs and secure future? As humanitarian organizations and individuals scramble to adequately provide for the many needs of a displaced population, Louisiana’s Chabad Rabbis came through this Rosh Hashanah with something only they could offer: a sense of community.

“When people talk about what they miss about being home in New Orleans, a common theme that emerges is the sense of being together with your community, feeling at home with a group of people with whom you share so much,” says Rabbi Yossi Nemes, director of Chabad of Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans. Nemes, along with Louisiana’s senior Chabad Rabbi Zelig Rivkin, three other local Rabbis and their respective families spent Rosh Hashanah with close to 150 New Orleaneans who shared those feelings over the holiday. Celebrating with members of their own community at Chabad’s Rosh Hashanah retreat in Monroe, Louisiana, he says, was a priceless gift.

Ferrer Defends Sharpton Ties

The Jewish Week

At Agudath Israel forum, Democrat asked about activist’s endorsement; Bloomberg names liaison to Jewish day schools.

Both major candidates for mayor appeared separately before national officers of the Orthodox group Agudath Israel last week, fielding questions about housing, private school tuition and other matters.

But Democrat Fernando Ferrer faced the toughest question of the evening when he was asked about his relationship with the Rev. Al Sharpton, whom many Jewish leaders have shunned because of his role during black-Jewish flashpoints in the ‘90s. Ferrer in turn mentioned a controversial ally of Bloomberg.

Egypt Shakes Its Finger; Lulavs to Suffer for It

The Jewish Exponent

American legislators, Israeli officials and Jewish groups are working diplomatic channels in an effort to stave off a looming lulav shortage ahead of Sukkot.

Their efforts follow a surprise move by Egypt, which – after years as the world’s primary supplier of the palm fronds that form the spine of the ritual lulav – said it no longer would provide the leaves to suppliers in the United States, Israel and beyond.

“We’ve got everybody on the case, and I told them to shake a leg,” Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.) said, pun intended.

After synagogue shooting, painful memories for woman who may have been target

Sun Sentinel

The gunfire that shattered a quiet hour of prayer in a synagogue haunts a woman who thinks the bullets were ultimately intended for her.

But Marta Pinto left the holiday service early, unable to withstand the angry glare of a man she says snared her in an abusive relationship, with its violent unraveling documented in court records.

“He destroyed me. My spirit is on the floor,” Pinto, 52, said in a brief phone interview Thursday.
