The last time there were new members elected to the board of Merkos was in the summer of 2004. At that time Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, head Shliach in Maryland and Rabbi Zev Katz, Gabbai of 770 were the two new members.
The need for new members comes after the passing in recent years of Rabbi Berel Junik and Rabbi Sholom Marazov who were both on the board.
New Shliach Elected on Merkos Board
Rabbi Sholom Ber Levitin, head Shliach to the state of Washington was recently elected on to the board of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch.

Chabad’s Jewish Learning Institute Comes to the University
Vienna Austria — It was developed as an educational program that would provide adults in Jewish communities the essentials of Jewish literacy. Since its establishment several years ago, the Rohr JLI (Jewish Learning Institute) has become the largest adult learning program of its kind, operating multi-lingually in over 200 cities and around the world.

Volgograd Children Get Closer to Jewish Roots
Volgograd, Russia –- The summer camp season is well underway for Jewish children residing in the Volgograd Region. It has already been one week since the boys and girls headed to the site, located at a resort in the Leninsky District of Volgograd Region. Here, there enjoy top-notch security, comfortable living conditions, two pools, clean air, a nearby forest and spring.
The driver who hit me was making a left-hand turn onto Eastern Parkway and was definitely not paying to attention to my position. While I doubt that he deliberately chose to knock me over, he was certainly distracted. Perhaps he was on a cell-phone or thought that he could make the turn without striking a pedestrian who was clearly three quarters of the way across the street.

A Note on Crossing the Street!
Recently, as I was returning from the Mikvah on Shabbos morning, I was struck by a car. By the Grace of Hashem, I suffered no injuries. I crossed the street at the intersection of Troy and Eastern Parkway with the light in my favor and I was attentive to all cars.
