In the beginning of this week's Torah portion Hashem tells Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses our teacher) that Pinchas deserves a great reward for “zealously avenging My vengeance” and therefore Pinchas should now become part of the Kohanim (a holy sect within the Jewish people who served Hashem in the Beis Hamikdash). Urals Jewish Community Inaugurates Summer Camp
Yekaterinburg, Russia – Summer camp season has commenced for 150 children from the Urals Region of Russia thanks to the initiative and organization of the Jewish community of Yekaterinburg, a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia. Together with their parents and family members, the youngsters gathered in the Jewish Community Center for the opening ceremony of the ‘Gan Israel’ Day Camp, the camp is sponsored by the Ohr Avner Foundation headed by Mr. Lev Leviev.

Highland Park, IL — Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois sponsors The Friendship Circle program to bring playmates into the lives of special needs children to provide them with social and Judaic experiences they can not otherwise easily obtain.
While the Jewish community regularly upholds their commitment by maintaining the cemetery, this new initiative will take that idea one step further by publishing and further developing a website dedicated to the historic Jewish cemetery. In the first stage, this site will feature photographs of each grave stone, and the biography of the Jew who is buried there.
Siberian Jews Initiate Project on Historic Cemetery
Omsk, Russia – The Jewish community of Omsk has just introduced a new initiative that will help its members better fulfil the mitzvah of honouring the deceased. This most recent project entails the collection of information and photos of the historic Jewish cemetery in this major west Siberian population center.

Every Jewish home received a brochure explaining the mitzvah of mezuzah with an invitation to make an appointment for the Rabbi to personally visit their home and install their first mezuzah free-of-charge. The response was overwhelming, the Jewish Community Center soon receiving dozens of calls from interested persons. Currently, over 100 doorposts proudly display a beautiful mezuzah, and there is a long waiting list!!
