A mourner who is sitting Shiva RL is allowed to go to Shul during the day to recite Selichos, and to Daven with the congregation.

During Selichos, Tachaunu (Viduy) is recited, even after dawn but not during Davening.

In the Piyut, “Merubim tzarchei amcha,” Nusach Lita is to say the verse, “Vesaitiv lanu hakesiva vehachasimah,” and this was corrected by hand in one of the first editions of Kehos (soft cover), and this is apparently the correct version.

Usher in a New Year with a Shofar-Making class at the Jewish Children’s Museum

BROOKLYN, NY — With hand saws, drills and lots of adult supervision, kids at the Jewish Children’s Museum prepared to toot in a new year by making their very own shofars.

“This is fun,” Shloimie Werner, 10, said recently as he sawed and sawed, trying to cut off the tip of a ram’s horn to make his shofar.

NYU’s Jewish Students Cruise and Schmooze on Hudson River

NEW YORK, NY — Chabad House serving New York University, along with Jewish Heritage Programs, celebrated the advent of the school year by hosting students for their second annual Jews Cruise. Dressed in their finest, 550 students boarded “The Temptress” for a Sept. 4 ride on the Hudson River, where they feasted on a sprawling sushi buffet and dessert bar while what one student playfully called a “kick-tush” band played in the background.

The 9-year-old, his brother Barak Adler and mother Sigalit Adler attended a beekeepers demonstration and arts and crafts event at the Agudas Achim Jewish Synagogue in Peoria on Sunday.

Guest Speaker will be Rabbi Mendel Groner from Yeshivah Tomchei Tmimim in Kiryat Gat, Israel.
