Chabad Reaches Jewish Students at Commuter Colleges

R. C. Berman – Lubavitch.com

STONY BROOK, NY — When Dan Mendelson’s finance classes end for the day at Baruch College, he hops on a subway and heads to his apartment. Hanging out after class with friends – a mainstay of campus life – is something he has little time for as he juggles class work and his job.

Being a Jew Requires Constant Action

by Ed Spilka – Chabad.org

Master of ceremonies Jeff Marinstein, lef, presents a gag gift to Ed Spilka at the recent dinner of Chabad-Lubavitch of Fairfield County in Stamford, Conn. Spilka, a past president of the United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, was honored with the Lamplighter Award at the dinner. He later received a real menorah. (Photos: Aviva Maller)

Editor’s Note: Chabad-Lubavitch of Fairfield County in Stamford, Conn., co-directed by Rabbi Yisrael and Vivi Deren, honored the author with its annual Lamplighter Award. A former board member of investment firm Neuberger Berman and a past president of the United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, Ed Spilka was hailed by the rabbi as a “true profile in courage [and] a model of what leadership truly is.” This article is based on the author’s acceptance speech.

We met the Derens about eight years ago when our son Nathaniel attended the Chabad Gan Yeladim preschool. It was the start of a wonderful friendship and journey.

Ex-Cop Agrees to Change Name of NYPD Rant Web Site for Pension

NY Daily News

The founder of NYPD Rant – an Internet forum for disgruntled cops – has agreed to change the name of his controversial Web site in exchange for his police pension, the Daily News has learned.

Ex-cop Edward Polstein has surrendered to the city’s demand that he drop “NYPD” from the title, but he’s already planning a new site where disgruntled cops – hiding in anonymity – can spew racist rants and hate-filled attacks on the public, their superiors and other targets.

The settlement would mark the end of Polstein’s bitter federal lawsuit charging that he was fired in retaliation for criticizing Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly on the Web site.

How is Angelo doing?

The following is an excerpt from the New book on the Rebbe “The Rebbe Inspiring a Generation”. It’s an unbelievable encounter that a Non Jewish girl from Brazil experienced with the Rebbe. to see more information on the Book see www.inspiringageneration.com.

Mel Wacks, Founder of the Jewish-American Hall of Fame, relates: “This is the Rebbe’s greatness: he loved, and he inspired others to love. He cared, and he inspired others to care. He had great faith that the Almighty would provide all the resources necessary to do His will, and he transmitted this faith to others.”

The Exhilaration of Intention

by: Michael Gerber

Michael Gerber speaking at the West Coast Kinus HaShuchim

I just had an amazing realization during a keynote address I gave to the Chabad of California annual rabbis’ conference.

The realization was, and is, that I am here in this world for a Purpose. A Purpose I have never understood. But a Purpose which, as I spoke to the Chabad Schluchum (rabbis), became as clear to me as anything I have ever felt or experienced.
