Embrace of Passover Tradition Can Be Decidedly Untraditional

The tables are set for the communal Passover Seder run by Chabad-Lubavitch in Hamburg, Germany.

Concluding the Passover Seder minutes after it began was almost a family tradition for the Sifens. Larry and Pam Sifen, together with their children and parents, would sit around the table in their Norfolk, Va., home as the aroma of holiday foods warming in the neighboring kitchen competed with the text of the Haggadah for attention.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Thursday afternoon a woman found a Swastika drawn on the passenger side door of her car, parked on the corner of Lefferts Ave and Troy and Ave, not knowing what to do she called Shomrim.

Toronto Federation Highlights Children With Special Needs

Lt. Gov. David Charles Onley of Ontario, right, presented the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto’s Inclusion Initiative Award to Esther Grossbaum, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Toronto, and Chaya Perman, coordinator of the local Friendship Circle.

Toronto’s local Jewish federation singled out the Friendship Circle, a Chabad-Lubavitch organization that partners teenage volunteers with children with special needs, for its work making sure that children of all abilities participate in communal activities.

Torah Learning Center Expands

“Welcome to the friendly confines of the Torah Learning Center,” the saying goes at TLC.

That was an ironic comment on the Lubavtich institution’s home in a former single-family home. But now, with a just-completed $1.5 million expansion, TLC’s confines have gotten a bit bigger.

Launch of New Birthday Site in Honor of the Rebbetzin’s Birthday

It was the 25th of Adar 5748 (1988), some five weeks after the passing of the Rebbetzin. And it was her birthday. In a public address delivered that day, the Rebbe inaugurated a “Jewish Birthday Campaign,” suggesting guidelines for appropriate and spiritual birthday celebrations. In honor of the 20-year anniversary of this historic event, Chabad.org has rolled out a brand new birthday section.

Registration for Yeshivas Kayitz Detroit Begins!

Beginning after Gimmel Tammuz the program will extend for 6 weeks with the option of attending either the full six week program or only the first session. The Yeshivas Kayitz is geared for Bochurim ages 14-16 looking to spend a most enjoyable summer in an environment of warm chasidishkeit and learning. As in the previous year there will continued improvements to the grounds, activities, trips and most importantly to the learning program.

Pedestrian Struck while Crossing Eastern Parkway

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Just moments ago, at around 3:00pm, a pedestrian was struck while trying to cross Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue. A Hatzalah ambulance that was passing on their way to assist at another accident witnessed the incident and stopped to help.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The New Haven Police Department on Sunday arrested a suspect in the theft of $1,000-$2,000 worth of electronics from the Edgewood Ave. house of Yale Chabad, an organization that espouses the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement.
