Whole Religion in One Matzoh

By Joyce Shelby New York Daily News

Bakers at D&T Shmura bakery in Crown Heights fashion matzoh in the most traditional way. It’s round, not square, the way it was made in ancient times.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — Passover will have yet more meaning this year for Shirley Levy, who came from Caracas, Venezuela, to Crown Heights to learn about Judaism.

By the time the holiday begins at sundown Saturday, Levy, 25, will have learned how to properly remove all yeast products from her home and how hand matzoh is correctly made within 18 minutes so there is no chance for it to rise.

Mazal Tov! – Its A Boy!

MORRISTOWN, NJ — This June, it will be 10 years since Yaakov Parisi, 60, was born.

Before that, Yaakov, the Hassidic Jew, the citizen of two countries, didn’t exist. In his place was a Christian pastor leading a life different in many ways from that Parisi knows now.

‘I Tried To Save Him!’ Teen Thug Says

Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dean Henry Pinkham lights the candle of Columbia University President Lee Bollinger at a memorial service for Minghui Yu, a graduate student struck and killed by a car after being beaten by a 14 year old thug last Friday.

Ed. Note: Just note how the 14 year old here is being charged with manslaughter, which means he caused the death of his victim. This should serve as a wakeup call that teens that perpetrate crime should be held just as serious as any crime, and not looked at in a lax manner. Like the incident where police arrested Shomrim members in just this type of an incident.

The teen accused of attacking a Columbia grad student claims he tried to stop him from running into traffic, where he was killed, a detective testified Thursday.

After ambushing and pummeling Minghui Yu, the 14-year-old thug “attempted to grab Mr. Yu to keep him from going into traffic,” NYPD Detective John Garvey said, recounting the teen’s statements. “Mr. Yu pushed him off and ran.”

WASHINGTON, DC [CHI] — In a paring that goes into the “only in Washington” category, the Motion Picture Association of America’s Private Screening Room played host to a most unlikely gathering.

Black-hatted Shluchim mingled with supporters in the exclusive and upscale space located less than one block from the White House.

Jewish Prisoner Settles Suit Over Denial of Religious Rights

By Joshua Runyan – Chabad.org

Workers at the Aleph Institute, a Chabad-Lubavitch organization based in Surfside, Fla., that provides for the needs of Jewish prisoners and military personnel, prepare shipments of Passover supplies.

The Vermont Department of Corrections settled a lawsuit with a Jewish former inmate who had been denied kosher food over Passover and ritual items over Chanukah and Purim. As part of its $25,000 settlement with Gordon Bock, 53, the department agreed to alter its policies dealing with the free exercise of religion and rely on the recommendations of the Aleph Institute, a Chabad-Lubavitch organization based in Surfside, Fla.
