NEW YORK, NY — An exclusive group of emerging leaders at college campuses across the world kicked off the largest-ever weekend event hosted by the Chabad on Campus International Foundation.

All told, more than 800 Jewish students and recent alumni gathered in Crown Heights, N.Y., for the International Shabbaton and Conference, but participants of the leadership training portion hailed it as groundbreaking in uniting proven leaders from the business and philanthropic fields with the next generation. By the summit’s conclusion, participants had approved a slate of four resolutions to improve Chabad House programming on both the local and international levels.

Kosher Today

With inventory being depleted and three glatt kosher meat packing plants out of service, the scramble for glatt kosher meat intensified in markets throughout the country.

The Iowa and Nebraska plants of Agriprocessors as well as the Minnesota plant of Alle Packing, which was shut down due to problems stemming from a fire in June, accounted for the slaughter of over 1,000 cattle a day. Despite discussion of a possible reorganization of Agri, meat cases in stores all over the county were empty this week.

The Annapolis resident goes to classes and religious services offered by Chabad of Anne Arundel County, an outreach and educational center for Jews run by Rabbi Nochum Light and his wife, Hindy.

“I feel there's something communal about it,” Mr. Birman said. “It's important we have these types of opportunities to get together and do things.”

He's been attending classes at Chabad for about two years and has studied everything from portions of the Bible to Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism). The atmosphere at Chabad, he said, is always friendly and open to everyone.

As a Chabad Rabbi, my initial thoughts were against the President-Elect and much of his platform. Weighing his policy towards Israel, a land dear to myself and my brethren, and envisioning a world gone mad held in the palm of his hand, truly pierced me to the core.

History Repeats Itself at Chabad of Rara

RARA, Australia [CHI] — Chabad of Rural and Regional Australia has once again sent out another group of Roving Rabbis to visit Jews living in areas around Australia who are not residing in main Jewish communities. This trip, like all the ones before it, is focusing on bringing Yiddishkeit to these Jews. Mezuzas will be hung, Tefillin will be laid, Bar Mitzvas with men of all ages will be celebrated, Shabbatons, tens of house visits, signing people up to all of RARA’s programs and trying to locate new Jews to add to the 2000+ person database.
