The workout machines are gone, replaced with menorahs, dreidels, arts and crafts and Chanukah-themed gifts.

BROOKLYN, NY — Matisyahu, born Matthew Paul Miller, is well known as a genre-busting Hasidic reggae artist who performs in tzitzit. But with his new EP, ”Shattered,” and current tour, he shows a new, bold eclecticism that demonstrates a simultaneous evolution in his music and religious attitudes. He’s taken true steps — away from Chabad in his religious observance, and away from more conventional reggae in his musical development — and has opted instead to define his own new path.

NEW YORK, NY — The NYPD is making an unusual move to ensure no one notices a decline in the number of cops on the streets - decking out the vehicles used by traffic-enforcement agents, auxiliary police and school-safety agents so they look like regular cruisers.
The move will be phased in slowly with the special units - who have typically used cars painted dark blue - to be given the white cars that are taken out of use from the main fleet.

Light of Recognition: Public Menorah Lighting Believed a First for Loveland
LOVELAND, CO — Rabbi Yerachmiel Gorelik was thrilled to have a standing-room-only crowd at possibly Loveland’s first public menorah lighting at sundown Sunday.
“For the first time in Loveland, happy Hanukkah,” said Gorelik of the Chabad Jewish Center of Northern Colorado in Fort Collins.
Gorelik greeted the nearly 200 people at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. Cold weather caused the menorah lighting to be moved from Peters Park outside the building to the museum basement.
Gorelik showed a short video on the menorah, an eight-branch candelabrum used in the Jewish faith to symbolize hope, religious freedom and perseverance.
