Oholei Torah Thanks Alumni for Helping Make Tribute

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you, the classmates that help in the many preparations, the ones I called at all hours for input and suggestions, the classmates that were able to join the actual event, and the ones who showed support and interest, even though they were not able to join the Dinner.

In one aspect it is hard to say that I enjoyed working with you, since the circumstances around this gathering were so painful and difficult, yet at the same time, the concern, interest and achdus I felt was inspiring and brought me great pleasure, seeng that even after 10 years since you left the physical walls of Troy Avenue, nevertheless, you still remain together and have a ahavas rai’im just as it was in your days in Oholei Torah.

Today in History – The Friediker Rebbe Arrives in the U.S.A.

At the outbreak of the Second World War in September, 1939 (5699), the Rebbe refused every opportunity to leave the inferno of Warsaw until he had taken care of his seminaries and done everything possible for his suffering brethren in the Polish capital. He remained there throughout the terrible siege and bombardment of Warsaw and its final capitulation to the Nazi invaders.

Even during this time he managed to evacuate a great many of his students to safer zones, and all the American boys who had been studying at the Lubavitch seminary at Otwosk were safely transported back to their homes in the United States.

PSA: Shluchim Looking for Bochurim? Bochurim Looking for Shluchim?

For Shluchim looking for bochurim to help with peulos or other types of Shlichus, and bochurim looking to help a shliach over Purim, Pesach or all the year round- look no further – your answer is BochurimPlacement.com which is part of the online placement service offered by the Shluchim Office, run out of their Brooklyn office.

It couldn’t be easier: the Shliach posts the job he is offering indicating the details of the job and what he is looking for in a bochur. The online service then presents the Shliach with a list of bochurim who match his criteria. The Shliach can then contact the Bochur/im directly to work out details. It works the same way for a bochur, once he posts his profile online he can see a list of Shluchim looking for Bochurim and contact a shliach if he is interested in helping him out.

State Slaps Dr. Do-Good

NY Post

Dr. John Muney’s unlimited office care for
uninsured patients got the thumbsdown
from the state.

The state is trying to shut down a New York City doctor’s ambitious plan to treat uninsured patients for around $1,000 a year.

Dr. John Muney offers his patients everything from mammograms to mole removal at his AMG Medical Group clinics, which operate in all five boroughs.

“I’m trying to help uninsured people here,” he said.

His patients agree to pay $79 a month for a year in return for unlimited office visits with a $10 co-pay.

But his plan landed him in the crosshairs of the state Insurance Department, which ordered him to drop his fixed-rate plan – which it claims is equivalent to an insurance policy.

Levi Wolowik OBM

When word got out Saturday night of the shocking loss of Levi Yitzchok Wolowick, administrators of Yeshiva Darchei Torah, where he was a fourth grader, had to prepare their staff and their students to deal with his death.

Rabbi Dovid Morgenstern, the menahel of the fourth and fifth grades, himself a trained grief counselor, said the yeshiva immediately sought guidance from Chai Lifeline’s bereavement and crisis intervention team, led by Dr. Norman Blumenthal and Mrs. Zahava Farbman.

Blumenthal met that night with administrators and teachers, Rabbi Morgenstern said. The next night “we had a meeting…in the yeshiva for parents specifically of the fourth grade,” though it was open for all who wished to attend.

When school resumed on Tuesday following the snow storm, Dr. Blumenthal, a psychologist, and Mrs. Farbman, a licensed clinical social worker, planned to spend the day at Darchei offering counseling.
