BOROUGH PARK, Brooklyn [CHI] — The monumental success of the Lag BaOmer celebrations in Boro Park repeated itself this year with over 3,500 children all partaking in a Parade followed by a program which included the recital of the twelve Pesukim, Divrei Torah alongside an Acrobat and Illusionist Performance.

So long as I am in New York City, I enjoy frequenting an informal eatery in the Chassidic neighborhood of Williamsburg. Usually, I meet an array of customers who like myself have patronized the establishment and meet there every Thursday night to enjoy heated cholent, pastrami, and conversation.
I enjoy exchanging Chassidic insights and traditions with the group who represent a number of Chassidic sects. Consistently, after having debated ideas and swapping scholarship, the dialogue becomes focused on the life, teachings, and example of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Judaism’s beloved religious leader.
The young Chassidim of Satmar, Vishnitz, or Bobov that I passionately converse with are curious about the man who was a leader of men. They wish to learn from the teacher who was so called by eminent Torah giants. They are eager to make contact with the endless love for the Jewish people that was displayed and embodied in the person of the great Rebbe.
KENSINGTON, Brooklyn [CHI] — Over 400 children from all backgrounds, religious and secular, Litvish and Chassidish, American and Russian, gathered from all over the area for a grand Lag BaOmer Parade in Kensington (Flatbush) on Ocean Parkway.

It was a Friday night. The *family was finishing their Shabbos meal when their 2 year-old suddenly began to choke on a small piece of watermelon. The panicked parents tried the traditional slaps on the back, but it failed to dislodge the obstruction. The child began to turn blue from lack of oxygen, r”l. Fortunately, an uncle, who had been taught the Heimlich maneuver years before, happened to be on hand. He quickly sprang into action, lifted the child and began to repeatedly perform the technique.

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — After the morning Lag BaOmer rally in front of 770, there was a childrens fair on Empire Blvd. There were rides, a petting zoo and a concession stand.
NEW YORK — A warning would have been welcome when an Air Force jet flew unannounced over the New York Harbor weeks ago and sent frightened workers in lower Manhattan into a tizzy. (When it turned out the flyover was for an expensive photo op, the White House official who approved it resigned from his post over the scandal.)
