NEW YORK, NY [CHI] – On hand for an early Menorah lighting was Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg who a few hours before Chanukah lit the worlds largest kosher Chanukah Menorah with Rabbi Shmuel Butman and the Menorahs designer Yaakov Agam.
CROWN HEIGHTS [NY1] — Jews around the city began celebrating Hanukkah, the festival of lights, at sundown Friday.
The holiday marks the Jews’ rebellion against the Hellenistic Greek leader Antiochus, who outlawed Jewish religious customs in the second century B.C. When the Jews rededicated the temple in Jerusalem, the wicks of the menorah burned for eight days, seven longer than expected for the amount of oil they had.
For the Tenth consecutive year in Tallahassee, Florida Governor Charlie Crist enjoyed the Chanukah celebration arranged by Chabad of Tallahassee, the local branch of Jewish outreach giant Chabad-Lubavitch. The event was well attended with over 100 people, including many Chabad Rabbis from all over Florida. You can feel that the amazing energy of Chanukah was felt vibrantly in the air.

CHICAGO, IL [NBC] — On the eve of the Jewish holiday, the Naperville Park District agreed to add a menorah to the Riverwalk holiday display after previously rejecting the request by the Chabad Jewish Center.
An ordinance normally forbids private groups from putting up signs, but the group donated the menorah to the park district so it could be put up in time for Hanukkah, which begins at sundown Friday.
