Gedalia Shaffers Murderer Sentenced to 17 Years in Prison

LONG BEACH, CA — A 30-year-old Los Angeles man pleaded no contest Wednesday to a charge that he killed a 61-year-old rabbi while driving drunk two years ago.

Willie Norton Jr., 30, entered his plea – considered the same as a guilty plea in criminal court – as jury selection was slated to begin in his trial Wednesday, said Long Beach Police Sgt. Hans Kohnlein.

After entering his plea Norton was promptly sentenced to 17 years in prison, said Kohnlein, who is in charge of the Accident Investigations Detail.

The victim, [Gedalia] Shaffer, was visiting from Brooklyn, New York, on March 7, 2007, when the fatal crash occurred.

With great sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Ben Tzion Lipsker, the head Shliach in Arad, Israel. He passed today, Wednesday afternoon in an Israeli hospital. Rabbi Lipsker, 65 passed after battling a serious illness.

In addition to being the head Shliach in Arad, Rabbi Lipsker served as the chief rabbi of the city and also served in the Chabad Rabbinical Bais Din in Israel.

He is survived by his wife Sarah and his children, Chana Mendelson (Arad, Israel), Esther Druk (Omrim, Israel), Rut Hilman (Petach Tikva, Israel) and Nechamah Kozlovsky (Kfar Chabad, Israel). And his brothers, Zalmen Lipsker (Philadelphia, PA) and Eli Lipsker (Crown Heights).

The Levaya will be Thursday at 10am at his home in Arad. He will be buried on Mount Olives in Jerusalem.

FOX NEWS — Germany's foreign ministry is sending a clear message to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ahead of his Wednesday speech to the United Nations — don't deny the Holocaust.

If the rogue Iranian leaders does in fact make such a statement before the General Assembly, German diplomats will walk out. And Germany wants other European Union countries to follow, the foreign ministry was quoted by Reuters.
