Amid Tears and Tefillin, a Young Israeli at D.C. Rally Says Kaddish for His Father

Throughout the March for Israel rally in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 14, countless Jewish men among the 290,000 participants took the opportunity to put on tefillin. For Ilia Chikaidze of Kfar Saba, Israel, it was also an unexpected opportunity to recite Kaddish for the first time for his father, who had passed away in Israel just a few days earlier.

With the Israel-Gaza war approaching its 40th day and antisemitism on the rise around the world, an estimated 200,000 people from all walks of Jewish life gathered at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in a massive show of unity and support for the people of Israel, who have been under attack since Oct. 7.
