Dozens of college students took advantage of their summer break to visit Israel with Chabad on Campus’ IsraeLinks, completing the second trip this month. Led by scholar in-residence Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson, along with Rabbi Yosef and Devora Wilhelm of Chabad of the Upper East Side, IsraeLinks took the enthusiastic students on a thrilling journey filled with fun and meaning.
A few Sydney Shluchim banded together, worked hard, and managed to produce an exciting six day winter camp/Yeshivas Kayitz for the Lubavitch teens in Sydney, something that hasn’t been done in ten years!

If you want Kosher pork—pork spare ribs, pork cutlets, center-cut pork chops, all labeled in Hebrew “Sh’Chita Beit Yosef” (i.e., kosher slaughtered)—you get that only in New York, only at the Associated Supermarket at 4407 Greenpoint Avenue, in Sunnyside, Queens, and only for a few hours today, between the time the Israeli artist Oded Hirsch snapped the above photo on his cell phone and it got forwarded to me, and the time I phoned Aris Duran, the supermarket manager, for an explanation.

Slogans plastered on placards around him decried the rising rent and the injustice of failing to provide citizens who put their lives on the line in the army with the means to obtain a mortgage. On average housing prices throughout Israel have risen 60% since 2007.

Throughout most of the month of June, the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School and Kindergarten hosted the Gan Israel Chabad day camp, attended by 30 children. The campers enjoyed a variety of activities including sports, arts and crafts, and exercising. They were served breakfast, lunch and snacks each day, as well.

Rabbi Kaplun Elyashiv, a member of Hasidic movement Chabad, discovered one day that he is the star of a Landwer advertisement. He says it happened in 2010 while he was talking with friends and suddenly saw his picture on the café chain’s website.

The weather had no effect on the city spirit however. We visited the oldest “farmers only” market in america which opened August 17, 1907, and the people there were in full summer swing. We stayed again by the Morozov household (if you may recall they were the same ones who left their doors open for us after the tire blowout episode on our way to Vancouver). We met some bochurim from Morristown running the local Gan Yisroel.
