After a long and tiring but successful day, Eli and I (we are both named Eli) headed to our lodging to retire for the night. After making something quick to eat to fill our starving, food-deprived stomachs, we prayed the afternoon service—a prayer like none I had ever experienced before. The extreme gratitude to G‑d for helping us find and connect with so many of His people had really moved me. But when I got to the Shema Koleinu blessing—where you ask for your own personal request—I was stumped: What could I possibly need? I’m here doing what I love, helping Jews connect with their Judaism.

Archaeologists May Have Discovered Kohen Gadol’s Bell

Archaeologists have discovered a rare gold bell with a small loop at its end. The finding was made during an archaeological excavation in the City of David National Park (near the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem) by the Israel Antiquities Authority in cooperation with the Israel Nature and Parks Authority and the Ir David Foundation.

Buryatia, Russia: Synagogue for Jewish Inmates

An important event took place Jewish inmates at Prison number 8, located near Ulan Ude, the capital of Buryatia. A chapel has opened, making this the fifth Jewish House of Worship in corrections facilities in Russia. The opening of these mini-synagogues is part of an agreement between the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia and the Federal Penitentiary (FPS) of Russia.

Tampa Chabad House Has a New Home

For the past few years, the Northwood home of Rabbi Mendy Yarmush and his wife, Chanie, has doubled as a gathering place. The couple hosts monthly Shabbat services, special holiday events, a Jewish Mommy and Me program, and a monthly Women’s Circle that includes challah baking.

A proposal was made by the ministers that would violate a treaty but would secure important advantages for the country. Many reasons were offered to justify the act. The Duke listened in silence, and when all had spoken he closed the conference without giving approval. Placing his hand on a copy of the original agreement, he said with firmness in his voice, “Gentlemen, we have a signed treaty!”
