New Classrooms, New Students, New Year at LYA

Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy (LYA) in Longmeadow, MA opened its doors to more than just a school year. “As we continue to see an increase in enrollment in all departments, LYA staff mobilized over the summer to find space for new students and new classes in time for the opening of school”, commented Rabbi Noach Kosofsky, the school’s principal.

JNet Launches Live Class Learning Campaign

In honor of Chai Elul, all are invited to participate in a learning campaign, with the chance to win big prizes. A project of JNet, the Chavrusa match-making organization, the campaign provides a Sicha of the Rebbe said on Chai Elul to be learned b’chavrusa, followed by a three-question online review.

Wednesday: Rally at the Ohel

This Wednesday, the 15th of Elul (September 10), there will be a rally at the Ohel for all children ages 5 to 12 featuring arts and crafts, games and an amazing program. Buses will leave 770 at 5:00pm and return at 7:45pm. Transportation will cost $3.

Uruguay Jews ‘Lunch & Learn’ with Former President

In April 1936, as Nazi persecutions were battering the Jews of Germany and active anti-Semitism was on the rise throughout Europe, the Jewish community of Montevideo, Uruguay, founded the “Inca Shul,” formally known as Asociación Religiosa Israelita Beis Hakneseth Harischona. It attracted community residents and, over the next decade, appealed to hundreds of Jewish families fleeing Europe.
