‘Residents Only’ Parking Bill Approved by Committee

Every Crown Heights resident who doesn’t own a driveway or garage is familiar with the scene: Arriving home at last after a long day, only to end up circling the neighborhood looking for a parking spot for longer than it took to drive home. Today, a City Council committee voted to help end this situation. Opponents to the bill, however, say it will make it almost impossible to find parking when visiting elsewhere in the city, and is just another scheme for the city to increase ticket revenue.

President Barack Obama had no reservations attempting to block the execution of Humberto Leal Garcia, a Mexican man that was convicted in 1994 of the rape and murder of a 16-yearold girl in San Antonio. On July 5, 2011, The Guardian reported that: “The White House has asked the US Supreme Court to put the execution of Humberto Leal Garcia on hold while Congress passes a law that would prevent the convicted rapist and murderer from being put to death along with dozens of other foreign nationals who were denied proper access to diplomatic representation before trials for capital crimes.”

City Agrees to Revisit Parking Violation Stickers

Today the New York City Council’s Transportation Committee held a hearing on a bill proposed by Councilman David G. Greenfield (D-Brooklyn) that would change the city’s approach to punishing drivers for alternate-side parking infractions. Intro No. 546 would end the practice of placing hard-to-remove neon stickers on drivers’ vehicles when a driver parks on the wrong side on alternate-side parking days.

In preparation for Yom Kippur this year, students of the Yaldei Hashluchim Online School didn’t just learn about the Machzor – they lived it! With Mrs. Malka Touger as a guest speaker, presenting a visual presentation of the Kohen Gadol’s Avodah on Yom Kippur, students took a virtual trip into the Beis Hamikdash and saw the Avoda come alive!
