Quantifying Our True Worth – The Undefeatable Jewish Spirit

By Rabbi Yoseph Kahanov, Jax, Fl.

“How do you figure we humans got here in the first place,” inquired a young girl of her mom. “Many years ago,” said the mother, “G-d created Adam and Eve. They had children and grandchildren and so it all began.”

A few days later the girl asked her father the same question. “That’s a truly complex question my child, let me try to explain: Hmmm. . . Where do I begin? Well, to make it simple, many years ago there were monkeys, the monkeys gradually evolved into humans. . .”

Confused, the child determinedly returned to her mother: “Dad says that humans came from monkeys, how come you told me they were created by G-d?”

IsraelNationalNews.com

Sholom Rubashkin, former operator of Agriprocessors kosher slaughterhouse in Iowa, stands to be sentenced for life for financial infractions. Jury selection is in progress in a second trial against Rubashkin, where he is accused of employing minors and exposing them to dangerous chemicals and machinery on the plant.

While initially seen as an internal, American criminal issue, the Rubashkin case has now attracted international Jewish attention and concern, due to the severity of the potential sentence, which is due to be announced in the coming weeks. Award-winning investigative journalist Edwin Black was interviewed this week by Israel National Radio’s Eli Stutz, and revealed his findings on the prosecution and his opinions about its severity. Black is highly critical of the prosecution, and desired to give “a real second look at what is being done.”

The Atkin’s Diet. The Scarsdale Diet. The Banana Diet.

In a world of hard-to-keep, outlandish, and deprivation diets, a balanced diet composed of healthy and vitamin-packed food is finally “in.” There’s been a lot of talk on exotic superfoods such as acai and gogi berries and quinoa, but typical staple grocery items also belong to this category. They include blueberries, broccoli, salmon, and chicken.

Nightlife Does Lag Ba’Omer

by Esther Chana Freeman

The alleyway was dark, narrow and rocky. At times could be lonesome if that is where one ends up. But that was not the destination. A few more steps and I would be there. I knew I would be greeted with smiles and warmth that surpasses any expectation. I braved that alleyway and walked through the gate enveloped by an ambiance of fire, music, energy and young welcoming hearts; quite the combination and ingredients for a perfect way to erase the memory of that alleyway. There were young women of all different interests; Teachers, college students, writers, musicians, artists and the list goes on. Though I’m sure there was not one person around that bonfire who thought the same, we were all bound together in unity and spirit on that glorious night of Lag Ba’Omer.
