Ulyanovsk, Russia — Ignorance is usually the context for the myths and misconceptions that foster a climate of suspicion and hatred. Nothing new here, particularly as concerns anti-semitism. But somehow, in the age of information, there seems to be no excuse for ignorance.

Chabad Chevra, Miles Away From Ordinary

Jana Yampolsky – Chabad.edu

Hartford, CT — On any given weekday, Rabbi Yosef B. Kulek, director of Chabad Chevra at the University of Hartford, can be seen promoting trips to Israel, handing out Israeli chocolates and chatting with students as they pass through the Gengras Student Union on their way to class. It would be an understatement to say that Chabad Chevra is quite a presence on Hartford’s campus; its members are committed to its cause of religious study in a social atmosphere, and has proven to be both a social and spiritual organization.

Did you say the ‘Nasi’ Today? (Yom Bais)

From the Safer Haminhagim: [Every day from Rosh Chodesh Nissan until the twelfth of the month, usually after Shacharis,] one reads the passage [from Bamidbar 7-8:4] that describes the offering brought on that day by a particular Nasi, or tribal prince, for the dedication of the altar of the Mishkan. [In common parlance, each day’s passage itself is often referred to as “the Nasi.”] This daily reading is followed by the prayer which opens with the words yehi ratzon (and which appears in Siddur Torah Or [as well as in Siddur Tehillat HaShem, p. 371]). This prayer is recited even by a Kohen or a Levi [despite its seeming relevance only to tribes other than the Tribe of Levi]. [284]
