Solon Chabad to dedicate Torah scroll

Cleveland Jewish News
Rabbi Zushe Greenberg of the
Chabad Jewish Center of Solon
and young members await the
completion of their specially
commissioned Torah.

Solon, OH – Rabbi Zushe Greenberg and his wife Miriam, of the Chabad Jewish Center of Solon, are very excited about a new arrival.

It’s not another son or daughter (the Greenbergs have eight children), but in many ways it will be one of their family’s most exciting additions; it’s a brand new Torah scroll.

The Solon center is inviting the entire community to welcome this new Torah scroll, especially commissioned for them, on Sun., Sept. 10. The scroll will reside in their Aron Hakodesh (Holy Ark) next to three other Torah scrolls previously donated to the center by synagogues and individuals during the center’s 15 years of existence in Solon.

Funds for Chabad’s new Torah scroll were publicly raised. Those making a substantial donation could sponsor one of the 54 individual parshas (portions of the Torah). An individual scroll letter cost $18. Because the goal has yet to be reached, fundraising efforts for the new Torah are continuing. Although the exact figure was not disclosed, prices for new Torah scrolls are typically in the $40,000 range.

Tales from the Suburbs of the Diaspora

Rebbeca Rosenthal – Lubavitch.com

Jews scattered by the winds of exile tend to land in metropolitan clumps or at least in suburban splotches. But then there are those who follow their hearts to the heartland, their dreams of financial success or adventure to the crannies of the country, the nooks of the nation. For many of those Jews living so far off the beaten track that they’re teetering on the edge of civilization, the 230 Merkos Shluchim sent out by the educational division of Chabad-Lubavitch to posts around the world this summer may be the only rabbis or the only other Jews they see all year. All summer long, the 20-something rabbinical students cruised the suburbs of the Diaspora, looking for Jews who might want to connect.

The Weekly Sedra – Ki Tavo

This week’s section always falls in the month of Elul, the month of mercy.

Even the initials of this month show how good G-d is: Alef Lamed Vav Lamed stands for “I am to my beloved (G-d) and my beloved is to me (Song of Songs 6:3). G-d loves us!

Not only that but in this week’s section ‘Joy’ is stressed not once but twice – once in the beginning ”You should rejoice with all the good that G-d has given (26:11) and later in the middle “Serve G-d with Joy and a good heart from great abundance” (28:47).

This is the preparation month for the days of ‘Repentance and Awe’ Rosh HaShanna and Yom Kippur’; namely when we see and feel how much G-d loves us and wants to forgive us. It encourages to return to Him.
