Serving G-d and Country, Chabad Chaplains Bring Purim to the Troops

As Purim approaches, thousands of Chabad emissaries worldwide are gearing up for the holiday’s joyous celebrations. Rabbi Yehoshua Rubin is no exception. What sets him apart, however, is his unique congregation—25 active-duty Navy officers stationed at Naval Air Station Lemoore in Northern California.

Weekly Story: This Gives Me Happiness

I was thinking of writing for this week a Purim story, however, on Tuesday when learning the daily lesson of Tanya, where the Alter Rebbe discusses the ultimate purpose and reason why Hashem created a person and the entire universe, is in order that each one of us, create for Hashem a place where Hashem will enjoy dwelling in, (the 11th possuk of the twelve pesukim). The following story and thought came to mind, which perhaps could illuminate to some the meaning of these words, so I decided to write that instead. 

In Aruba, Chabad Assists in Purim Miracle at Sea

In a dramatic turn of events, two Jewish tourists were rescued off the coast of Aruba by the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard after a jet ski excursion went awry on March 11. Chabad-Lubavitch of Aruba, led by Rabbi Ahron and Chaya Blasberg and their team, played a pivotal role in coordinating the rescue efforts and providing assistance to the stranded visitors.

Long Island Young Scholars Compete at Regional JewQ Championship in Port Washing

Young Jewish scholars from across Long Island gathered at Chabad of Port Washington for the Long Island JewQ Championship, one of many regionals taking place across the globe leading up to the grand finale. Winners will advance to the JewQ International Championship March 30 at the CKids Shabbaton, competing against top students from Chabad Hebrew Schools around the world for the international title.

Following a long career in social services, Rabbi Mordechai Dov Ber Pupko succeeded his father in heading the Bais Torah Damesek Eliezer synagogue – the “Pupko Shul” – in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He was interviewed in February of 2014, and passed away several weeks ago, in February of 2025.
