Moshe Rubashkin, Chair of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, hosted a brunch reception for community leaders at his President Streethome this morning, honoring newly elected New York State Senator Eric Adams.

At the brunch, Rubashkin welcomed Senator Adams to the community, who was joined by members of his staff. He told the audience how he looked forward to working in partnership with the Jewish community, which supported him in the November election.

Senator Adams, who recently retired from the NYPD as a captain, will represent CrownHeightsin Albany. The Senator remarked how he is fortunate to be elected at a time when the Democrats are only a mere few seats away from taking the majority in Albany.

San Diego, CA — The news came late to some students, so when all 450 chairs set up for a Friday night dinner with Chabad at the San diego State University campus were taken, another 100 students waited outside to get in.

The year was 1994. I had recently moved to Crown Heights, Brooklyn after graduating from college in San Diego, California. It was quite a change for me, the geographical shift from the beaches of La Jolla to the noise and cold of New York being the least of it. More so, I had left my politically correct, and extremely liberal college environment to immerse myself in intensive Judaic studies and try to get a glimpse of understanding into the life long question, “Who am I?”

Although spiritual knowledge was something I was seeking, eating was also one of my needs, so I immediately started to look for a job. I soon heard that a woman was in need of a gymnastic teacher. Having done gymnastics for years and coached during college, I was thrilled to discover that there was a small gym program being held in this woman's basement for little five year old Chassidic girls. I was ecstatic. Granted, it was not a gym like I was used to, but I knew I could improvise, and just wanted an opportunity to work with children and teach them the very things I loved so much.

Fire on Lincoln Place

Erev Shabbos a fire broke out at 835 Lincoln Pl between New York Ave and Nostrand Ave on the first floor. FDNY got the call for heavy smoke in the area which was visible and smelled all the way to Kingston Ave and responded with 2 ladder trucks 4 engines and two battalion chiefs and had the fire out in under 11 minutes.

Attempted Home Invasion Evokes Massive Police Response

Wednesday night at around 7:00pm there was an attempt made to break into a home on Carroll St between Kingston and Albany. Present in the house at the time was one of the children who called 911 in a panic saying that someone was trying to open the porch window to get in. Many police officers both in uniform and plain clothed responded and surrounded the alleyway and the block with guns drawn and were searching for the perp, even a police helicopter was called in to search the rooftops to search for the perp.

The perp though was not apprehended. The Commanding Officer of the 71st precinct told CrownHeights.info that there was no chance being taken, after a rash of ‘home invasions’ and burglaries took place in the neighborhood, he said that the night before there were two perps apprehended on Crown St in regards to break-ins in the neighborhood.

Friday night at around 3:00am Hatzalahs newest ambulance ‘CH-1’ was involved in an accident while transporting a patient to Methodist Hospital. The accident took place on Eastern Parkway and New York Ave at around 3:00am, the ambulance was en route to the hospital and made a left turn from New York Ave onto Eastern Pkwy and a Toyota of an unknown model came down the parkway at a high rate of speed and struck the ambulance.

The ambulance took significant damage to its rear on the driver’s side, while the other took heavy damage to its front end. The driver of the Toyota refused medical attention at first but at the end submitted to treatment from EMS workers that responded to the incident. One of Hatzalahs other ambulances, CH-3, responded and continued the transport of the patient.
