BDE: Rabbi Berel Zaltzman, Pioneer of Russian-Jewish Outreach, 91, OBM

With great sadness, we report the passing of Rabbi Berel Zaltzman OBM, a veteran shliach, renowned chazzan, and pioneer of Russian-Jewish outreach. For decades, Rabbi Zaltzman dedicated his life to strengthening Yiddishkeit among Jews who had lived behind the Iron Curtain, inspiring countless individuals through his warmth, song, and unwavering devotion to the Rebbe’s shlichus. He passed away on Tuesday, the 8th of Tammuz, 5786.

Chabad Shluchim Rally to Assist Families and Ensure Jewish Dignity in Wake of Fatal Bowie Plane Crash

Late Saturday night, June 20th, a single-engine Piper PA-28 Cherokee carrying three young men went down in a wooded area near a residential neighborhood in Bowie, Maryland, killing all three aboard. In the hours and days that followed, a network of Chabad shluchim under the auspices of Chabad of Maryland and Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan together with partner organizations worked quietly — and urgently — to ensure the victims received the dignity, respect, and Jewish care that halacha demands.

BREAKING: Active Shooting Unfolds Steps From Montreal Chabad Community — Officer Killed, 100 Shelter Inside Chabad House

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed the incident began at approximately 11:35 a.m. The shooting unfolded near Decarie Boulevard and Westbury Avenue, an area with a large Jewish and Chabad population and several community institutions, including Beth Rivkah Academy, Chai Center, MADA, Vaad Ha’ir, and Yagdil Torah.
