Rabbi Groner Speaks to Bochurim

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Scores of Bochurim from both Yeshivas in Crown Heights and visiting have assembled earlier this evening in 770 to hear words of Chizzuk and Hisorrerus from the Rebbe’s Mazkir, Rabbi Yehuda Leib Groner, about Yud Shevat and about ‘Shnas Hakhel’.

New Rash of Car Break-ins, Nelsons M.O. at Play

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Nelsons signature returns alongside a new rash of auto break-ins. Over Shabbos a car was broken into on Montgomery Street and a portable navigation unit was stolen and on Sunday night another car was broken into on Albany Avenue and Empire Boulevard. Each of these incidents had Crown Heights’s most notorious auto larcenist, Terrence Nelson, signature all over it.

Family Halachos in Practice

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Last week began the session of Chazara Shiurim on family Halachos for Men.The upcoming Shiurim will take place on Tuesdays from Parshas B’Shalach to Parshas Mishpatim; 9,16, and 23 of Shvat, 3,10,17, of February. Maariv is at 9:00 with the shiur following at 9:10 PM. The shiurim will be delivered by Rabbi Shmuel Bluming in English @ Agudas Yisroel, 456 Crown Street between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues.

Meorot Chabad Volunteer in Israeli Army

JERUSALEM, Israel [CHI] — Last week Meorot Chabad arranged for it’s students a week off to volunteer on an Israeli army base, “Tze’eilim” in the south.

The students all wore uniforms in the week’s experience.

Throughout the week, students had the chance of ‘living the life’ of a non-combat soldier.

Kiryas Joel Program Helps Drivers See Children

Students in Kiryas Joel line up Jan. 27 to get reflective tape to be sewn onto their coats. The tape is being required to reduce the number of children hit by cars in the village.

KIRYAS JOEL, NY — Several thousand Kiryas Joel schoolchildren now wear strips of silver reflective fabric on their coats to make them more visible and reduce the number of kids hit by cars in the village.

The village’s Public Safety Department and school district began distributing the strips two weeks ago. They insisted that children have them sewn onto their coats by the start of this week or be barred from getting onto a school bus, according to Public Safety Director Moses Witriol.

Yud Shvat is the Yahrtzeit of the Frierdiker Rebbe. Amongst other customs, the Rebbe encouraged that on this day one should learn the Mishnayos related to the name of the Rebbe Rayatz. Riders who have left something behind on a subway or bus can go to MTA.info and then go to “Travel” under the NYC Transit tab. The site features drop-down menus, with options to describe the item, when it was lost, and on which subway or bus line.

Chabad Youth Zone Makes Puppets for Victims of Terror in Israel

GOSHEN, NY [CHI] — Using socks, googly eyes, felt and other creative materials, twenty-five children recently gathered to make puppets to be sent to victims of terror in Israel. Chabad’s Youth Zone Club, “Kids In Action For Israel”, carried out this unique project. The club, geared for children ages 5-12, meets monthly to do a good deed for others, and simultaneously has a special activity for their own enjoyment. This year, the children are gearing the charity projects to various causes in Israel. The hand-made puppets will be sent to a Chabad representative in Israel who will deliver the gifts to children who have been seriously injured through terrorist acts.

Young Man Falls to his Death on Union and Schenectady

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A man fell to his death this evening from a 4th story window of the apartment he resided at. The incident took place at around 10:00pm on Union Street and Schenectady Avenue and the man who was reported to be black and in his mid-20’s.

TAMPA BAY, FL — As halftime descended on the nail-biter of a game that was Super Bowl XLIII, Farley Weiss, an attorney who had traveled across the country to watch his beloved Arizona Cardinals face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers, took position outside of Section 236 at Tampa Bay, Fla.’s Raymond James Stadium with one thing in mind: It was time for the evening prayer service.
