Soul II Soul’s 4th Annual Concert A Complete Sell Out!

Last night [Motzoai Shabbos] a massive crowd of over 1,500 people packed into the hall of the Brooklyn School of Music & Theater for an evening not to be soon forgotten. The Concert started with a Melava Malka table set and Avraham Fried greeting the crowd “A Gut Voch” and saying “look at this, a Melava Malka with an Orchestra!”, the Orchestra was the Neshoma Orchestra and was directed by Steve Bill.

The evening started off with slower music and gradually increasing the tempo pulling the crowd in with it, the air in the hall was filled excitement, the crowd got up at times to dance with the music, and Avraham Fried came down to dance with the crowd at times. Overall the evening scored a massive success with not an extra seat in the house!

The proceeds of the event go towards assisting children with special needs to get the best possible education, for which a years tuition can cost as much as $40,000! This year the Concert moved from it’s traditional location , the Wingate High School, to the Brooklyn School of Music & Theater who’s hall can hold an additional 400 people. Organizers of the event weren’t sure that the additional seats would be sold, but the turnout was so large…

A really bizarre botched robbery incident!

Click Here for a Newscast of this incident.

A 75-year-old man was robbed and kidnapped Thursday while opening a Long Island synagogue for morning prayers, Nassau County police said.

The man was stuffed into the trunk of his car for about an hour until he was able to escape, police said.

The incident began at 5:50 a.m., when the man was preparing the Young Israel Synagogue in North Woodmere for the morning service, police said.

Police said the two masked robbers with guns demanded money from the man, who was not identified. The man told them he had no money, so they took his car and ATM card and put him in the trunk of the car.

The man said the robbers drove around for about an hour, making a couple of stops.

When the car stopped and the man didn’t hear voices in the car anymore, he was able to pry open the trunk, escape and call police.

Architect for New York’s Javits Center under fire

JPost

American Jewish leaders welcomed the decision by British architect Richard Rogers to resign his membership in a professional organization that has called for the boycott of Israel’s construction industry. However New York politicians had questions for Lord Richard Rogers, in light of the state contract awarded him on September 29 to design a $1.7 billion project that would almost double the size of Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Convention Center.

Rogers, whose previous commissions have included the headquarters of Lloyd’s of London, the European Court of Human Rights, the Pompidou Center and the Millennium Dome, hosted the inaugural meeting of Architects and Planners for Justice in Palestine (APJP) at his London offices on February 2.

The newly formed association of architects, planners and engineers denounced professional colleagues who worked on Israeli government projects in Judea and Samaria as “complicit in social, political and economic oppression,” and violating “their professional code of ethics.”

Bochur Arrested For Drunk & Disorderly Conduct in Public

At around 2:00am [Sunday Morning] an Israeli Bochur was on his way from 770 to the dormitory at 1414 President when a patrolling police officer noticed the Boucher on Kingston and Union not walking straight (all over the place) and approached him, the Boucher immediately turned violent and attempted to fight off the police officer.

A total of 8 police officers arrived on scene immediately and managed to subdue him, while placing him in the police car the Bochur all of a sudden went violent again causing the officers to need to subdue him once more. Arriving at the Precinct the Bochur could no longer stand on his own (being so severely intoxicated).

They say be careful what you wish for, the added patrols add more vigilance to the police force, so be sensible and most importantly be safe.

Torture and Death of Jew Deepen Fears in France

The New York Times
Police tape barring access to a basement room in a building in a housing project in Bagneux, France, where Ilan Halimi, 23, was held and tortured.

Two strips of red-and-white police tape bar the entrance to the low-ceilinged pump room where a young Jewish man, Ilan Halimi, spent the last weeks of his life, tormented and tortured by his captors and eventually splashed with acid in an attempt to erase any traces of their DNA.

The floor of the concrete room, in the cellar of 4, rue Serge-Prokofiev, is bare except for a few packets of rat poison, a slowly drying wet mark and a dozen small circles drawn and numbered in white chalk, presumably marking the spots where the police retrieved evidence of Mr. Halimi’s ordeal.
