First in 75 Years, New Torah Welcomed in Brisk

On Lag Ba’omer, a new Sefer Torah was completed in Brisk (known today as Brest), Belarus, for the first time in 75 years. The new scroll was welcomed with much celebration to the city’s main synagogue, where the famed Reb Chaim Brisker (soleveichik) once studied and prayed.

Brisk, once the home of great Torah giants, has been slowly reclaiming its glorious past with the revitalization of Jewish life in the city under the leadership of Chabad Shliach Rabbi Chaim Rabinovitz.

The joyous event was attended by hundreds of local Jews, as well as many Rabbonim and dignitaries, including – chief rabbi of Russia Rabbi Berel Lazar, the city’s mayor, the Minister of Religion of Belarus and the local consuls of Russia, Poland, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
