Picture of the Day: Long Lines Form at Polling Sites

Long lines have formed at the local polling sites – some an hour and a half wait – as residents of Crown Heights gather to vote for the candidates of their choice.

This presidential election pits incumbent President Barrack Obama (D) against challenger Mitt Romney (R), along with a slew of third party choices.

The voters will also choose candidates for other offices, including representatives for the State Assembly, the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate.

Bring your voter district information found on your board of elections voter reminder mailing that you should have gotten in the mail. This will save you a lot of time. My wife and I voted in about 20 minutes this morning on empire.

  • Vote by mail!

Why didn’t they vote by mail weeks ago? It would have saved plenty of time

  • 2pm

I was at Crown St site and was out in and out in about half hr. The lines are waiting to see which district, but they call district numbers while u wait and then u go vote.

    Good luck

  • CRAZY!

votes by mail are not counted unless the election is close enough that they could decide the election.

for me it was 3 hours!!!!!!!!!!!! my husband waited 2 hours but then someone had to pick up our kids so he didn’t even get to vote! At least I did

  • A theory....

I remember that the turnout was very high in 2008, but it was exponentially higher this year, in 2012.

The only explanation I can think of, is that with so many more folks on Food Stamps than there were four years ago, maybe all of these extra Food Stamps recipients were urged to also register to vote when they signed up for those Food Stamps (sort of like “motor voter,” where they urge you to register to vote while doing DMV business). So maybe there were more registered voters this time, so the turnout was even higher than in 2008.

And of course, there’s their (understandable) fear of losing those Food Stamps unless Obama’s reelected.

I don’t see any other explanation (other than hacking the computer results).

“why do they hire illiterate people to work there? ”
Because, in a nutshell, they can’t get good people for what they pay. Talent goes where the money goes, you see.

If you don’t believe me, volunteer to be a poll worker – they’ll snap you up in a heartbeat.
