Pedestrian Islands Reinstalled on Eastern Parkway

A large team of workers from the New York Dept. of Transportation was seen this morning reinstalling the pedestrian island at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Kingston Ave., which was removed to accommodate the Labor Day Parade.

A worker at the scene told CrownHeights.info that the newly-installed islands are made from a special modular material that will allow them to be removed and reinstalled with ease to accommodate the yearly parade.

Unfortunately, there is a downside to these new “temporary pedestrian islands,” as they lack the safety ballards which had previously been installed at both ends of the islands to stop any vehicles from rolling onto them, a potentially life-saving feature.

The pedestrian islands on Empire Blvd. also lack ballards, and therefore can easily be overrun by out of control vehicles, potentially threatening the lives of any pedestrian standing on them.

CrownHeights.info has also learned that additional temporary islands will be installed tomorrow at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Ave.

I counted them. There were 22 workers on this job. At least 15 were standing around doing nothing. Our tax dollars at work!

look at the big waste of money by the commie mayor blasio. blasio needs to be defeated. let’s make NY great again.

  • Dangerous idea

This is a removable system without concrete barriers, it gives a false sense of security. Please fix this ASAP. The labor day parade is not worth the risk to human life this may create.
