Picture of the Day: Snow Cordiality

This photo, published by the UK’s Daily Mail, shows a sign placed on the corner of Albany Ave. and Crown St. in Crown Heights, bearing the following message the paper describes as passive-aggressive: “This path was made by an unknown young woman with her own shovel and no help from anyone. Thanks for making this crossing possible.”

The main thing is to be safe and to shovel all the snow. I saw alot of places not shoveled

      This is common sense

There is an epidemic of dog owners not cleaning up after their dogs in Crown Heights which needs to be addressed. I wanted to call 311 regarding the issue so I wrote down the address numbers that had dog poop in front of the home. I had to write every address on the block. Unfortunately I didn’t have the time to make the call.

  • City has rules

The owner of the property at that corner is responsible for removing the snow and making enough of a passageway (both to cross Albany and to cross Crown) that pedestrians can safely cross the street.

If the property owner does not fulfill this responsibility they can be cited and fined.

Of course, as a practical matter, the act of kindness of the person who shoveled was more prompt than the owner was, at fulfilling this responsibility. I for one am impressed. Since I live on a corner, I know how difficult it is to shovel the required passageways at a corner, since the plows keep diverting more street snow at corners almost as quickly as it can be shoveled. It’s a big, messy, bone-tiring, and somewhat aggravating task!

Yasher koach to the kind person who did the shoveling at this particular corner.

  • mistake?

    That sounds very nice
    1) I saw a super shoveling over there, where did the sign come from? and where is the walk way shoveled picture, with two paths?

    2) who lamenated this sign?

To #7-you had the time to write down addresses and write on this site but don’t have the time for a short phonecall?

  • confused!

if it says that the picture was “published by the UK’s Daily Mail”,
    1) does that mean that it is in london ?
    2) if the answer is yes, what does london have to do with putting in a picture from crown heights ?

“…shows a sign placed on the corner of Albany Ave. and Crown St. in Crown Heights…”

Yes, it was published in a UK paper. Information can be transmitted between Brooklyn and London, you know.

Why is this passive aggressive? To me it looks like someone was finally thanking Mrs. Maytelles for her years of service to all the ladies in the community who use those crosswalks with baby carriages. For years she has been doing Montgomery and Albany and Crown and Albany, may Hashem reward her for her genuine ahavas yisroel,
