From Days Gone By: Shlichus to War-Torn Europe

Rabbis Zalman Posner and Mendel Baumgarten embark on the Queen Elizabeth ship on their way to war-ravaged Europe, where they were sent by the Frierdiker Rebbe to visit the survivor Jewish communities following the Holocaust. Can you identify anyone else in the photo?

The boy on the left side (when you look at the picture) in the lightest colored coat looks like my Uncle, Yankel (Yaakov) Winter, but I don’t know for sure, can someone please confirm that?

I think that they ’embarked’ to Europe on some kind of banana boat – was not the Queen Elizabeth, but after some encouragement they came home on the Queen Elizabeth.
