Op-Ed: I Am Worried About Jonathan

by Giulio Meotti – Israel National News

Jonathan Pollard saved millions of human beings in the Middle East and worldwide from excruciating deaths and painful lifelong physical disabilities. To do that, Pollard sacrificed his freedom.

Documents recently released to the National Security Archives at George Washington University provide us, for the first time, with the details of the espionage activities that have made Jonathan Pollard the most controversial and hated figure in the U.S. intelligence community.

The CIA report reveals that Pollard did not procure secrets about the United States. The intelligence Pollard provided his Israeli handlers consisted of the information that Washington had acquired concerning Arab states.

The report shows that the US government has lied to the public about key issues in the Pollard case for years. Jonathan was put away for life because he irritated US Arab allies who felt that Israel had been too much strengthened; and second because Pollard made Israel impervious to American pressure. What Pollard endangered was the US administration’s pro-Arab political agenda, not the intelligence community.

Pollard spied for Israel, not against the United States.

This is a complete lie. Pollard is where he belongs. I remember back to 1982, and it is a tribute to the American people that we Jews did not suffer pogroms for the acts of this drug-addicted, greedy, unbalanced traitor.

  • I disagree

Based on what i read abut the case, Pollored wasn“t such a hero. He was only after the money, and he picked up the whole ”Jew thinking of Israel“ bit to get Jewish sympathy after he was caught. If he was doing it for Israel why did he also try to sell things to other countries?

”Investigator Ronald Olive has alleged that Pollard passed classified information to South Africa, and attempted, through a third party, to sell classified information to Pakistan on multiple occasions. Pollard also stole classified documents related to China on behalf of his wife, who used the information to advance her personal business interests and kept them around the house, where they were discovered by investigating authorities when Pollard’s espionage activity came to light“

”During the course of the Pollard trial, Australian authorities reported the disclosure of classified American documents by Pollard to one of their own agents, a Royal Australian Navy officer who had been engaged in a personnel-exchange naval liaison program between the U.S. and Australia. The Australian officer, alarmed by Pollard’s repeated disclosure to him of data caveated No Foreign Access Allowed, reported the indiscretions to his chain of command, which in turn recalled him from his position in the U.S., fearing that the disclosures might be part of a “CIA ruse”. Confronted with this accusation after entering his plea, Pollard only admitted to passing a single classified document to the Australian; later, he changed his story, and claimed that his superiors ordered him to share information with the Australians”

A true pro Israel spy wouldn’t risk his position for other countries (including one Arab country). To me it seems like it was the millions he was getting from Israel not Jewish pride.

  • Sickened by comments

I am sickened by your negative comments. Whatever he did or didn’t do, he has more than paid his dues. Chinese and Russians caught spying in America have only been given a couple of years!

Have you heard of the boy who cried wolf? If we cry about people who are actually guilty, no one will listen to us when there is a real need for our cries. (For instance, how we were ignored by SM Rubashkim.)

He is sitting for much longer than other spies, because he passed MUCH more information than any other spy in history of this country.

  • Half day fast

There should be a half day fast throughout the entire Jewish world for Pollardand Rubashkin

  • Common Sense

Anyone intereste in the fact that Pollard pled guilty??? He admitted his guilt…dont you think thats fascinating?

  • Sholom

He admitted guilt so he can get less years it was part of the deal and GUILT means helping yidden?

  • To #8

He pled guilty only because weinberger ym”s promised him a deal which he withdrew soon after the guilty plea.

  • To #11

You are clearly unaware of case law precedents that clearly do not allow such a deal to take place. No prosecutor can induce someone to plead guilty on a promise, and then once guilt is admitted, withdraw their promise. It isnt a bargain and the defendant can withdraw his plea. So…hmm…that doesnt work.
