With sadness we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Sara Esther Feigelstock OBM, a beloved teacher and a Shlucha in Montreal, Canada since 1945. She passed away on Simchas Torah at the age of 85.
Born in a small town – McKeesport, Pennsylvania – in the 1930s, where I was the only Jew in my class at school, the only Jew on the block, even though our family was very religious, she related in an interview to JEM’s ‘My Encourter’ project last year.
“In 1941, when I was ten years old, my parents brought home for Shabbos two emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe – that is, the Previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yoseph Yitzchak. From that point onward, our lives changed quite dramatically, as my parents became involved in Jewish outreach” she said.
Their family then developed a close relationship with the Previous Rebbe – he wrote them every few months, and advised how to do outreach in our community and how to conduct ourselves religiously.
After her marriage to her husband Rabbi Hershel they moved to Montreal, Canada where they served as Shluchim for many years, with her husband serving as the schools longtime principal and herself as a dedicated teacher.
She is survived by her husband R. Hershel and children, Rabbi Yossi Feigelstock (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Shternie Greisman (Crown Heights), Rivky Teitelbaum (Miami, FL), Avrohom Feigelstock (Vancouver, Canada), Chaya Medalie (Johannesburg, South Africa), Shneur Zalman Feigelstock (Montreal, Canada), Sholom Ber Feigelstock (Los Angeles, CA), Devorah Leah Davidson (Pittsburgh, PA), and Alter Yehoshua Feigelstock (Los Angeles, CA) as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings R’ Yankel Winter (Crown Heights) and Mrs. Chaya Gansburg (Crown Heights).
She is predeceased by her son Menachem Mendel Feigelstock in 2008.
The Levaya took place in Montreal on Motzai Yom Tov on its way to NY. It will be passing by 770 at around 12:30pm.
