Body of Missing American Surfer Found

Daniel Bobis founded the Long Beach High School surf team.

Five days after disappearing beneath the waves off the coast of western Indonesia, a fisherman found the body of missing American surfer Daniel Bobis.

The 32-year-old from Long Beach, N.Y., had been vacationing in South Sumatra with his wife Rachel when an apparent collision with another surfer threw him from his board. Search crews used divers, boats and a helicopter in the effort to locate the Jewish man, who was a coach and math teacher at Long Beach High School.

Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Eli Goodman, director of the local BACH Jewish Center, had presided over an impromptu beachside memorial service Sunday not far from where Bobis first learned how to surf. His office said that he was comforting family members during this difficult time.

It’s a tragedy,. At least now that his body was found, he can have kevuras Yisroel, and his wife is not an agunah.

Why would a young teacher go to Indonesia and go surfing? It’s like hello “Dangerous” and “Life Risk”… Better to have gone for a dip in Brighton Beach Brooklyn… I can’t understand why young people venture out to do these things. Let’s leave the life risk stuff for goyim. Brother.
