Wasserman Schultz Asks FBI Chief to Investigate Fires at Chabad House as Hate Crimes

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, asked FBI director Robert Mueller today to investigate as hate crimes fires that damaged two South Florida synagogues. (As Reported Here).

Mueller agreed.

The FBI has jurisdiction over hate crimes motivated by intolerance of a person’s race, religion, or national origin, Wasserman Schultz said in a press release She asked for the fires to be investigated as hate crimes because the circumstances surrounding the Chabad Shul fire, the fact that it took place during Passover, and the fact that there have now been two fires at Miami Beach synagogues in the past six months.

Wasserman Schultz’ district includes parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

“We need to send a strong message that hate and violence of any kind will not be tolerated, we must investigate these fires as hate crimes,” she said.

Mueller was testifying before the House Judiciary Committee today at a committee hearing scheduled prior to last night’s fire. Wasserman Schultz is a member of the committee.

    Personally I think she’s Jewish, her names sounds Jewish but also: she talking about ”we’re celebrating Passover..”.

    So I assume she’s Jewish :)
