I am having a hard year with my son at school. The class is large and although he is bright, he gets easily distracted.

I feel like the Rebbe's are calling me every other day complaining about my son. “He’s not doing his homework”, “He seems so disinterested, and as a result disturbing my teaching”

I am just so frustrated! I have other children, B”H my other sons are doing well in this school, but its not working for this son. I work full time to pay the cost of tuition and my son is not getting his education.

A Mothers Cry For Help

I am having a hard year with my son at school. The class is large and although he is bright, he gets easily distracted.

I feel like the Rebbe’s are calling me every other day complaining about my son. “He’s not doing his homework”, “He seems so disinterested, and as a result disturbing my teaching”

I am just so frustrated! I have other children, B”H my other sons are doing well in this school, but its not working for this son. I work full time to pay the cost of tuition and my son is not getting his education.

After speaking with the principal, we all came to the same conclusion. My child although smart, was indeed not motivated and he would need a smaller class setting where he could receive more individualized attention.

Then, the big BUT. Where do I send him?

Although he has no physical scars, his academic, emotional and spiritual needs have to be met.

After much thought and research, we felt that Darchai Menachem would be the only alternative. I heard how much effort they put into their programs and was pleased to hear that they offered a curriculum that was well rounded. Their positive techniques motivate the children to want to learn and as a result the children feel accomplished and their self-esteem has been raised. I firmly believe that the child’s education determines his destiny.

“Perfect”, I thought until I heard the tuition costs.

How was I supposed to tell my child who felt so crushed that I had no school for him and he would have to stay where he is now?

After hearing about all their wonderful work that the school does with the boys –and the small ratio of teachers to student –and no government funding, I understood the high cost. I am in despair.

I know the school is trying to set up a scholarship fund in order to reduce the tuition.

Therefore, I turn to you as our community. My child is not the only one whose needs are not being addressed. If everyone will support Darchai Menachem then we will help our boys – yours and mine!

I myself got together with the parents of the school in the hopes that by addressing this serious issue we could achieve this scholarship fund. Therefore, this first Chinese auction by mail on Yud Shvat – January 29 will hopefully be the answer for many parents in the same situation.

Please support the school, visit them at DarchaiMenachem.com and buy your tickets, there are great prizes and great package deals we are truly saving the lives of many Jewish Neshamas who need this program!.

Our children are the future of this community!

I look at my son and hope that he will no longer have this struggle. He deserves a happy and good education that will work for him. I know I am not the only one; therefore, I turn to you all for help, for all of us who need it!

If you want to be effective, then such an important and wonderful letter should not be published anonymously. There is nothing to be ashamed of if you are serious about education. But when you remain anonymous and you omit important facts like how much tuition costs and how much money is needed, then your letter loses its effectiveness.

    This is my unsolicited advice.

Yosef it’s embarrasing! WOuld you like if your mother couldn’t afford a certain school for you and she published her name in public? You would be red like a tomatoe!!
It’s one thing to mention tuition, and it’s another to mention your name.
I thought it was a beautiful letter and I wish much hatzlacha for this wonderful school.

  • A++++++++

    To Yosed K.
If you had a prpoer education you would know it means
    OPINION-EDITORIAL

  • AF

The truth is that the schools that are letting these boys go should pay the tuition because the teachers should be qualified to handle the kids. In this day and age in lubavich this is why everyone goes off the path, BECAUSE NOBODY CARES!!!! A teacher has a kid that is disruptive (which is very normal) and instead of helping them they sit down with the parent and convince them to remove their kid. THERE SHOULD NEVER BE A REASON TO SEND A KID AWAY FROM SCHOOL!!!! and nobody can argue this point because look at crown heights today, look at all the kids who are not religious anymore, there are thousands and it all started when they “didnt fit in”!!! there are no guidenc counslers, the mashpiyim are terrible and they all take the easy way out and i promise you if it continues this way those thousands of kids that have went off the path will turn into tens and hundreds of thousand until the frum people will be the minority, and crown heights can only blame themselves for making this happen!!!!!

  • from a faraway reader

1:op stands for original poster. 2:i believe insulting each other like: “To Yosed K. If you had a prpoer education you would know it means OPINION-EDITORIAL” is not helpful. and did you have the proper education that allows you to talk like this to some else? we should all learn how the Rebbe would deal gently with people. yosef k. is entitled to his opinion just like you. i believe we should make a longterm commitment: what’s more important? when frustrated letting the aggresivity out by insulting others or trying to follow the Rebbe’s kind and gentle way knowing, ahavas israel will bring Moshiach!

  • someone who has seen results!!!!

I don’t understand all of you!
this mother is trying hard to do something positive for her son and there are people critisizing -just
buy tickets at the darchai menachem auction!!
we are all quick to judge
but when we see our teenagers of our shchunah leaving yeshivahs , hanging out with the wrong crowds we panik-
we cry out what’s happening to our youth.
here we have a school which tries to teach students in a positive and unique way- they think out of the box to help those who think out of the regular square box, as a result the boys feel good about their learning and hopefully will try hard to continue with their studies and stay in school without feeling they don’t know whats flying or rejected by the system.
this is a school that we all need .
    support them
(we all try to support youths who we are trying to mekariv to torah , but for some reason we don’t appreciate enough when someone or in this case a school is using preventive measures!!!)

I personally know a child who was really not doing well in the “system” and I see how much Darchai Menachem helped him. The teachers care about every single child, and the kids feel good about themselves and try to do even better. Support the school and log on to http://www.DarchaiMenachem.com

  • It is OUR job

It’s is time that all educators of our Yeshiva systems actually get educated. It is not enough to know the material that you are teaching, teachers and principals must know how to give over that material in a way that allows ALL students to learn. In each classroom you will have students with different needs and abilities. It is the job of mechanchim to be able to learn and implement the necessary methods and techniques that will give ALL children the chance to succeed.

As a teacher of an out of town yeshivah, I have systems such as incentive programs with a reward system that motivate those students who need the additional motivation. In addition, I have set up an enrichment and gifted program to assist and accommodate those students who need it.

It is OUR job, as teachers to TEACH the child. No two children learn the same way. It is OUR job as teachers to learn the latest researched techniques to accommodate the various academic levels within the classroom.

  • another ch parent

everyone has smart ideas but i think the point here is to buy tickets so that this school who does care and is effective can continue to help others.
i know that i will buy tickets because of what i hear in this beautifully written letter. this person is trying and cares about her child! she doesn’t even have a kid in the school , but believes that everyone will see what she is seeing-the wonderful work this yeshivah is doing!
so lets help her and others alike who will benefit!
that is true ahavas yisroel- and as the Rebbe always said chinnuch of our youth is of utmost importance!
read the quotes in darchai menachem auction booklet. The Rebbe is serious about children’s education and we should follow his lead.
times have changed and we have to live in this world!
the youth in our community have grown and with growth their is changes. that means we are going to have all different types of children with different needs. and one way of schooling isn’t the only way!! we all know at least one child who can’t do the regular rote learning and when we add that up there are hundreds, probably more!! we have aschool in our community . its a wonderful school. their goal is to help every child love to learn and as a result the children feel great! we should support our school so that parents don’t need to send their kids out of crown heights.
personally i believe that every school could benefit with this individualised positive learning techniques,. i know because i’ve seen the results of kids who go there they are getting 100’s on their tests when they were failing in their regular schools-lost in the system. that was my son. i am so proud of the fact that i made the right decision in putting my son there. darchai menachem is trying hard to help!what more can we ask!so please lets support “our’ school so our boys don’t have to go outside to ”other” schools.

    buy tickets!its a big mitzvah!!!!!!!

You have a good point, and I agree with you. However, I feel you are getting a bit carried away. I highly doubt that the “non frum” will become the majority in Crown Heights.

BTW, writing like a fanatic, just alienates people, and makes you look less credible.

Actuall OP-ED stands for Opposite Editorial, because it was on the page opposite the editorial. So no reason for you to be smug in your ‘education’ and denigrate others’ education.

  • just but tickets and support the school-

    just buy tickets!
    lets help our own!
i agree with one of the writers
we are all quick to do mivtzoim and mekarev and we tend to leave out our own who need help

  • where is everyone?

    where is everyone?
    someone is asking for help
    we need to help
    the school.
botoom lin- thekids will benefit the most from all of this!

  • to all extreme left minded people

you are all driving your self crazy.
but that is what i guess it is all about.
the school is not here to tell everyone how bad other schools are.
everytime you look up a story from DM to have to get these few comments putting down others.
the whole idea of making the school is to put UP… put up the students, the students who were for ever put down.
there is nothing wrong with a main stream school. look around the world they are a majority, main streem is what a school should be.
it happens to be that the world was created in a way were no one is the same and there for there are a few percent who need differant “streams” thus darchai menachem was created. Look at the size of the schools in crown heights, look at the size of darchai menachem they have only 53 students, (and growing) but they will not grow huge that is not the plan they will grow on demand only and only with the same ratio of 10 per class.

  • my full name here

if you have a teacher who is being paid 100 for a year and you gave him 10 students how much does each person pay to cover the teacher.

now if you put 100 students in that class, now how much do they all pay.

great now that you passes that quiz here is the next.

what type of person is a person who will anonimisly curse out some one who makes a comments annonimisly

i dont know maybe our dear mr. yosef can fill us in

My son goes to this school and it has been a HUGE blessing. He did not fit in at the ‘regular’ yeshiva and there answer was, essentially, to punish and isolate him.

He dreaded going to school each morning. Now he RUNS to school. The education system (the Boys schools) in Crown Heights in my opinion, is a disgrace. Not only does it not prepare our children for the future but if a child does not ‘fit in’, he is basically ignored and abandoned

Also, as a former secular school teacher, I must say, that the secular teachers do not know their subjects very well and almost all the teachers don’t seem to have a clue as to how to teach.

If I ‘taught’ as most of the Yeshivah teachers do, I would have been fired in a day. Aren’t our children entitled to as good an education as goyim?

PS- As, finally, one person here indicated, OP ED stands for opposite the Editoial page. I think the embarrassing guesses, as to what it means, proves my point about the educational system in Crown Heights as most parents are probably products of Yeshivah education in Lubavitch schools
