Mounted Police Bring Extra Security to Crown Heights

Following the national media’s attention to random attacks against Jews in Crown Heights, the NYPD responded with a massive show of force, deploying dozens of extra police officers on foot, squad cars, scooters, vans and even horses.

Last week, the editors of CrownHeights.info met with the commanding officer of the 71st precinct, Deputy Inspector George Fitzgibbon, who indicated that he understood that there is a fear of walking in the streets of our neighborhood.

“I want to bring back the confidence in the uniform,” D.I. Fitzgibbon said, adding that he would perhaps even bring in the NYPD’s mounted unit to help facilitate that confidence.

On Monday a group of African-American community leaders from Crown Heights and Brownsville held a press conference on Kingston Ave., denouncing the attacks.

On Tuesday a group of politicians and community leaders gathered for a breakfast to discuss these ‘knockout’ incidents. Deputy Chief of Brooklyn South Owen Monaghan said at the meeting: “uniform visibility and increased coverage is one of my priorities.”

The NYPD delivered all that beginning Tuesday night, with extra officers walking the avenues late into the night, and mounted police officers canvassing the neighborhood.

    This morning i parked in a spot that wasnt kosher and instead of getting a ticket, i found that one of them Police horses had backed up and deposited a load on my windshield, talk about saving money.

    jews do not feel safe walking in the dark at night in crown heights, its been like this for years, yes its possible that a place like NYC in 2013 people should be afraid to walk their own streets.

    The only way to make people safer is to have 24/7 cameras, and bright lights, with signs that tell people they are being watched 24/7.

    In 2013 with the money CHJCC gets there is no reason we cannot get this done.

    PS while we are at it we should also put up a eruv, which will make our ruchnius safer as well (helping those that carry not be mechallel shabbos)

      Camera’s do help as it let’s the thugs know that if they do anything, thy will be on video…
      So they relocate to where there is no Camera’s

    besides the fact that there are many bigot jews living in crown hights making this problem escalate i believe that your lashon hara has much to do with this problem.
    i don’t know of any other frum community that has as much drama,either within themselves or otherwise, as crown heights.
    look within yourself for why these problems occur in crown heights.
