The disturbing incidents began on Friday when the 8-year-old girl first noticed a person following her as she walked to her bus stop on Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Avenue on Friday morning.
Police say that she noticed the stranger, a bald man, following her and hiding between cars as she walked from her house with a friend to her bus stop.
Later in the afternoon, the girl’s 12-year-old brother was on the bus about to be dropped off near their home when the bus was flagged down by the stalker, police said. The man told the driver he was there to pick up the boy, officials said, but the driver told the man he was not authorized to pick him up.
The driver told him to leave before he called police, according to officials, who say he then fled the area. The NYPD said he returned later in the day a few hours later when the 8-year-old girl saw him on the steps of their home, ducking down and snapping pictures of the inside of the home.
When the girl approached him, he asked her where she slept in the home and who lives with her, police said. She refused to answer the man’s questions before he eventually fled the area.
The next morning, the 12-year-old boy was approached by the man again who asked him what bedroom he slept in and who he lived with, the NYPD said. The boy also refused to answer his questions.
The accused stalker got into a white car and drove off, heading toward New York Avenue, police said. It was later that day when the victims found the hand-written note inside their mailbox.
“Watch out. I am watching you!! Your daughter is cute,” the man wrote Saturday, capping off two days of sinister encounters in Crown Heights.
Police released details of the incident along with surveillance video of the suspect in hopes of the public identifying him. Cops are asking anyone with information about this man to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1 (800) 577-TIPS.
