Serial Shoplifter Apprehended by Store Owner

A career criminal with a long history of shoplifting from Kingston Avenue stores was apprehended earlier this week by a shop owner after he stole a pack of teeth whiteners.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 2:30pm inside Teva Drugs; the store owner observed the man pocketing a pack of teeth whitening strips and leave without paying.

The suspect hopped onto his bicycle and began pedaling away as the store owner chased after him. It was only when they reached Empire Kosher supermarket on Empire Boulevard that he managed to enlist the help of a few bystanders and stop the man, while others called the police and Shomrim.

Shomrim quickly identified the suspect as being involved in a number of successful and failed robberies over the last few years, most notably when he robbed Sunshine Pharmacy in 2011 and took over $200 worth of goods.

Police arrived at the scene and placed the man under arrest.
