Female Burglar Steals Over $1,500 in Cash from CH Family

When a family discovered that an envelope full of cash went missing, they asked their building’s management to review surveillance footage of the building. They were shocked to discover that an African-American woman had broken into their apartment a day earlier.

The incident happened in 1469 President Street, an apartment building just off Albany Avenue. Wednesday morning the couple discovered that an envelope containing between $1,500 and $2,000 in cash, as well as a number of old deposited checks, had gone missing. After searching to no avail they reached out to the buildings management asking to review surveillances video.

They quickly made a disturbing discovery.

Video footage revealed that the day before, Tuesday at around 12:30pm, a Black woman appeared in the buildings vestibule and pressed all the bells until she was able to gain access to the building. She then made her way over to the apartment and after fiddling with the door for a minute or two she gained access to the apartment.

The video further reveals that she spent just about two minutes inside the apartment before leaving.

“I had just stepped out for a short while, maybe 15 minutes, and when I came back I had no idea that we had a burglary” the woman told CrownHeights.info, noting that in her haste she only locked the knob and not the dead bold.

Other items such as electronics and jewelry were not taken.

The family notified the police, who took a report and had an evidence collection team dust for fingerprints. A pair of detectives were also assigned to the case.

“It is important to always check who is at the door, and if you are not expecting anyone to be extra vigilant, simply buzzing a building door puts the entire building at risk,” said a Shomrim coordinator, adding that it is also imperative to properly secure your door with a decent deadbolt even if you are leaving ‘for just a minute’.

  • tipped off

This woman obviously knew what she was looking for. Perhaps she was tipped off by a cleaning lady or the likes? It was no way random. she knew which apt to go to and from the time she was in there, she knew where the envelope was. The fact that she didn’t take anything else also indicates that it was the cash that she came for.

  • Attention please

Do not keep large amounts of money in envelopes or under matresses in your house. Banks have safety deposit boxes in vaults inside their banks. For less then $100 a year you can put money and jewelry in them.

  • Agree

I agree wiith #1. Should be easy to solve

    Now the big question.

What are the police going to do about it?

If they will do nothing, then all this “surveillance” is meaningless.

Note: For all those who have had these maasot (r”l) Please keep us informed as to what the police actually accomplished, so that we can use this info the next time we have a meeting with them.

  • Are you sure?

Are you sure it is a black woman? Might it be a white woman covered up with kerchief? Closeup might be able to tell.

  • questions

How did she know the apartment was vacant? How did she know there was money there? Maybe someone put secret cameras in the apartment? Was her hand in her pocket because she had a gun?
