CROWN HEIGHTS — A mugging victim was beaten and tossed into traffic after refusing to turn over cash in Crown Heights, cops said.

Lawrence Hoffman confronted the 21-year-old victim at 3:20 p.m. at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue, cops said.

When the victim refused Hoffman’s demand for money, the suspect allegedly punched and kicked him, then threw him into the path of a car that managed to skid to a halt.

Hoffman was soon arrested and charged with assault and reckless endangerment.

The victim’s injuries were minor. It was not clear if the robber and the victim knew each other.

He is a drug addict and should not be given money. He periodically gets out of drug rehab and then tries to collect money for his habit.

Now we know for a fact that he is dangerous.

He lived in the neighborhood when he was a small child and problems were evident even then.

  • because no blakcs involved

How do you like that! finally the news picks up a mugging story… I wonder why?

For the future safety of others in the neighberhood, the picture of this alleged assailant should be publicized, and people should be made aware to avoid him.I am the last one to question those asking for tzedaka, but there are a few dubious characters in our area that should be more carefully looked into.

  • seems like a beggar turned criminal

“one of us” every segment of society has a criminal element and we are no different. I never give “tzedaka” to these street beggars. Often times they get aggressive and it’s for a good reason that most professionals who work full time helping these people will agree that you are helping no one by giving them “tzedaka”. You are better off giving the money to organizations like bikur cholim.

Unless of course you know the person collecting for a legit cause, that is an exception.

  • be careful who you give to!

true! most of these are fakes, and use the $ for wrong things. some ppl. think they still get the mitzva of giving but you don’t. i saw this guy in the train once, without yarmulkas, there are enough true org. in our community that we KNOW are good, and we should give them instead.

  • BEWARE!

ALSO, THERE IS A GUY GOING AROUND CROWN HEIGHTS OFFERING PEOPLE CHECKS, IN EXCHANGE FOR A LESSER AMOUNT OF CASH, BEWARE, HIS CHECK WILL BOUNCE, AND HE WILL NOT RETURN THE $.

  • pic please

please post a picture, i have no idea who we are talking about here…
this will help many people be able to be aware of possible danger.

Uh, Techie got it wrong – it’s the Post, not the News.

  • CH needs a reality check!!

#4, you seem to be part of the same problem with Crown Heights as a whole.. you mentioned “problems were evident when he was a child” yet you yourself, and no one else seemed to be bothered to help… not now, not then!

It’s this typical mentality found in our community that continues to bring us all down… when will it stop?
