Photos: Trash Piles Up in Crown Heights Alleyways

Many Crown Heights residents, particularly those whose homes are adjacent to alleyways, have expressed frustration over the lack of garbage pickup by the Department of Sanitation over the past two weeks.

As can be seen in the photos below, mounds of garbage bags have been piling higher and higher, causing a terrible stench and attracting vermin, as residents wait day after day for them to be picked up by the city.

A source told CrownHeights.info that the Sanitation Department has instructed its workers not to pick up garbage in alleyways until the snow melts, as they are concerned about liability from possible damages by their trucks due to the ice and snow.

FYI 311 not taking any more complaints regarding garbage pickup!!!!!

  • 311 does not except sanitation complaints

I called 311 last week to complain. The recording said that they do not except sanitation complaints at this time. I waited on the line until I got an operator and she said the same thing. She would not take my complaint. When a passing sanitation inspector drove by I asked him and he said “the mayor’s office gave them orders not to pick up garbage”
