S’mores and Winter Warmth for FC Volunteers

While temperatures are dropping outside, inside the world of the Friendship Circle things are toasty and warm.

The Friendship Circle of Brooklyn’s volunteers joined together on Tuesday for an evening of fun and inspiration.

The girls first gathered round the S’mores Bar to warm their pallets with hot food and drinks.

The program was opened by volunteer coordinator Rochel Leah Yarmak, who thanked the girls for their commitment and dedication, come rain, hail, snow or sleet “you all trek out and visit your special friend.”

In honor of 10 Kislev, Mrs. Chani Majesky, director of the Friendship Circle of Brooklyn, relayed the story of the Mittler Rebbe, who while learning did not hear the sound of his child crying. His father, the Alter Rebbe, came down and told the Mittler Rebbe, “one must always heed the sound of a Yiddishe child who is crying.” Mrs. Majesky thanked the girls for answering that ‘cry,’ and making a real difference to the lives of the children and families that they visit.

The program continued with an interactive game of Family Feud, FC Style. Game show host Hinda Rappaport called up representatives from the two sides of the hall, and the game begun. Volunteers were asked questions that helped put their weekly visit into perspective, posed different scenarios quizzing the girls on how they would act and react all while offering advice and ideas on how to best interact with the child they visit each week.

The program finished with each volunteer decorating a framed picture of themselves and their buddy, which they will bring on their next visit to their friend’s home.
