Drunk Drivers Who Collided on Eastern Parkway Charged in Passenger’s Death

The first time two Brooklyn men ever met was when their cars crashed into each other over two months ago. Yesterday, Wednesday, they were both standing at the same defense table in a rare case in which two drivers are charged together for the death of a single passenger.

From the New York Daily News:

Richard Roman-Santos and Gerrard Herbert, both 32, were slapped with manslaughter, drunk driving and a slew of other counts for the Aug. 17 wreck that killed Michelle Mignott, 32.

The two motorists were driving on Eastern Parkway early in the morning when Herbert made a left turn onto Troy Ave. with his Nissan Maxima. Roman-Santos, who was allegedly doing more than 90 mph in a Chevrolet Camaro, plowed into the Nissan, shearing it in half, prosecutors said. Mignott, who was lying down in Herbert’s back seat, died and a front-seat passenger was injured.

This is the first time in Brooklyn that two drivers are charged under such circumstances and there are few comparable instances elsewhere, officials said.
