Nice idea. Unfortunately it would quickly become a magnet and hangout for homeless, druggies, dubious tzedoka collectors, etc. The picture is nice but the reality is that it would be a dirty scary mess.

Would hurt local businesses then they’ll close and then you’ll wonder what pedestrians are doing there in the first place

it is definitely an interesting idea
but needs to be accompanied by a municipal plan for reasonable parking for patrons of the stores at both ends, near eastern parkway, and near empire.
and would require a configuration that to drive from rutland to eastern pkwy, you don’t have to go out 2 full blocks out of the way – troy or NY avenues, which is alot of pollution

This is not a good idea. Will delay emergency responses. Will create difficulty for delivery trucks and stores recieveing the delivery. This could have an adverse affect on businesses as there will he less traffic in store wirhour being able to drive there. Vote no.

  • Agree

It would be great for tishrei, kinus hashluchim/shluchos, cteen…. all these BIG events that people come from all over and they can have the streets for easy access shopping and not have to worry about traffic…

  • No!!!

    Emergency delays!?!
Kids and adults going crazy on their e-bikes and scooters crashing into Bobby’s who have to walk blocks and blocks because there’s no car for them?
Why would you even dream about such a thing?

  • Traffic

The way traffic usually moves at a snail’s pace on Kingston Avenue with all the double parking it would probably speed up the pace of things a bit as a pedestrian mall.

Great Idea. This will greatly improve the quality of all those not in cars.
The homeless issues should not be any worse than Eastern parkway Plaza right now. Overal it will be a great enhancement of Kingston ave.
Those concerned about traffic… You might BE the traffic you’re complaining about…
For those concerned with Emergency delay: There can be special retractable bollards for emergencies.

  • Worried

So when someone need hatzoloh for example or police or fire they would have to walk and waste precious time to save a life just asking whoever came up with this crazy idea can you live with yourself knowing you killed someone with this stupidity

this idea obviously was not suggested by locals. the idealized picture does not include frum Jews, but it does include a homeless person’s hut and fountain for people to fall into….
show me a neighborhood that has successfully maintained its local businesses after being transformed into a pedestrian mall. this idea only works in areas with high tourist volumes ALL YEAR LONG–not just Tishrei.

No, no, no! Too much northbound traffic already, as it is. NY Ave will become even more of a daytime parking lot instead of a thoroughfare!

  • I'm a pedestrian and a driver

About time! Buses, bikes, electric scooters, cars, double parking, parking on both sides of the street…. it’s ridiculous! I only cross at the lights and I feel I take my life in my hands every time.

It’s the best idea I’ve heard about traffic in CH in decades.
