Picture of the Day: New Parking Meters on Kingston

The city has installed brand new parking meters along Kingston Ave., increasing the likelihood you will find parking next time you go shopping – but decreasing the likelihood you will be able to afford it.

Similar meters have been (and will be) installed along Albany Ave. as well – even in areas which do not have any stores.

You would do a great service to residents and guest of crown heights if you would explain how to use these new meters.

  • Dr. Holmes

Sort of okay. Yes it stinks but it was impossible to find parking there! 770 people would leave their cars their literrly for months.

  • Another reason to move

These are ticket makers for the city, In bad weathe you have to walk to them first get a stub then walk back to your car and put it on the dash board and hope the meter maid doesn;t give you a ticket while you are away.

  • share your ticket

once you leave the area and you have time on your ticket please pass it on to someone else or leave it by the parking meter.

Got news for you guys but we’ve had these up here in Montreal for years & we don’t get Saturdays, sundays or holidays off. You’ll get used to it.
BTW the only reason that Kingston was free for the past few montshs is because of the cconstruction. Prior to that there were meters. This is just a more modern way of paying.

  • beware of these meters!

from the look of these, we have a similar system in montreal quebec, already in place for quite a while. these are not like the old mechanical meters where you could run out at any time and top off the amount left in the meter.
no, with these (at least in montreal), every time you add money, you basically erase and nullify what was there before. so for example, if you have 1$ left and you run out and add 50 cents, you will only be left with 50 cents (and not 1.50$). it thus becomes a delicate balancing act to figure out when exactly to add more money – too early and you lose what you’ve already deposited; too late and you risk getting a ticket.
also, the person who parks after you in the same spot will not benefit from any extra money left in the meter or vice-versa, unless you are a nice person and clearly leave the receipt slip for him/her to have.
this system can also be nasty and unfair, because if for instance, you put in say, 3$ worth and someone comes along after you and unbeknownst to you puts in 25 cents, you’ll have lost your 3$ and be in risk getting a ticket upon the expiry of the 25 cents worth of parking! it’s not a defective meter that will have caused this, but rather another person! of course, if you still have your paper receipt slip, you can prove that you paid for the time, but still, what a blasted headache!

  • resident near troy ave.

These meter are going to create huge problems with parking
on Fridays after we change the clock and since you cant put enough time to go past the 2 hours ( 4pm plus 2 hours is 6pm and your short an hour) plus i believe on troy Ave they are
    6 days meters (including shabbos)

I also believe the community board had to approve this.
one of our own, that’s were the blame should start

  • does anyone know...?

if you have minutes left on your muni meter receipt, can you move your car and use this time at a different location?

  • dont park on kingston

during the day there is always parking on the side streets right near kingston – and its FREE

  • 770

very bad and expensive for ONLY 15 minutes per quater, very crazy; Please Dear Mr. Sperlin we will send you to Dear Mr. Bloomberg to protest ‘TO EXPENSIVE” or MORE TIME ON THE MEETERS. THANK YOU

  • Shachris Shachris ehh....

So now its gona cost me a Quarter to daven shachris in 770 each day.

  • Re: 19

In all cases of using these systems that I’ve come across, as long as the other location is the same rate per hour or less, you can use it as that location.

  • moish p

#24……..lol…………maybe u can shafre the ticket for schachris…..2 can daven for the same 25 cents

  • To # 25

!% min. to walk to 770, daven and get back to your car? More like a dollar, I would think.

But Troy Avenue is a maximum of 1 hour, which makes no sense at all.

  • ATTENTION DR. HOLMES

GO BACK TO MEDICINE. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HECK YOUR TALKING ABOUT.

  • can-t wait

I can’t wait till that idiot Bloomberg leaves office. He has done NOTHING for us other than raise the rates of fines and made sure that people got ticketed more often. and the crown heights ‘big wigs’ do nothing but lick his T_ _ _ _

  • WHAT COMMUNITY BOARD?

THE COMMUNITY BOARD IS TOO BUSY SHMEERING THAT GOOD FOR NOTHING BLOOMBERG TO EVEN THINK ABOUT ITS RESIDENTS

  • To # 24

!5 min. to walk to 770, daven and get back to your car? More like a dollar, or an hour,I would think.

But Troy Avenue is a maximum of 1 hour, which makes no sense at all.

  • yes to #15

NY is generous! we pay a quarter for 5-8 min depending in which part of town you’re @ & most places you pay 2-3$ for 1hr making that 4-6$ & sometimes EVEN more!!!! The only good side is you pay & GO(don’t need to place the stub in your car) & this year you can TEXT your NUMBER in from a distance!!!!

  • BE CAREFUL

I actually got a ticket in another neighborhood with these MuniMeters because I placed my receipt on my dashboard in such a position that it covered my “VIN NUMBER” metal sign ( a ticketable offense in this town ). So, also be careful where you place the receipt !!

  • To Out of Towner

These muni-meters work as follows: You park your car and then go to a muni-meter on that block to pay. You put money in the muni-meter and print out a receipt. You put the receipt on top of your car’s dashboard and hope to make it back before the expiration time indicated on the receipt expires. There’s supposed to be a 5 minute grace period if you are late.

  • Nothing wrong with the meters

Why should we be any different than the rest of city. We are not above the law and I’m happy they are now here. Thank you NYC

  • Dr. Holmes

To 28: I really? Remember the Yellow Moshiach Cadillac parked for MONTHS on kingston? There are others as well…

  • parking meter ticket??

How can you get a parking meter ticket instead of carrying coins or a cc around?

  • Love the new merters

This of course cuts both ways. yes, it is a shorter window of time for those parking, but it heightens your chances of finding a space altogether. I think it is a fair and needed trade-off. I am all for the new meters, and look forward to people parking on business streets for the space’s intended use – purchasing goods at the local shops, – not for parking you car there for days, or sometimes months, on end.

  • Rochie

share your pay stubs! If you are leaving your spot and have time left on your paper please share it with someone who is waiting to park!
    big mitzvah!
