Bais Rivkah Girls Visit 71st Precinct to Show Support

In the wake of the horrible tragedy that occurred this past weekend, in which two police officers were murdered while on duty near Crown Heights, 25 Bais Rivkah High School students – representing the school’s entire 2,200 student body and faculty – visited the 71st Precinct to give thanks to the officers serving the community and show their support.

The girls brought special large cakes for the entire precinct to share. The cakes bore the message: “Bais Rivka School thanks the 71st Precinct for protecting us.”

Officer Frank Bulzoni of the Community Affairs Division welcomed the group, and gave them a tour of the precinct. He told the girls that the police rely heavily on the community to keep them informed of what’s going on, and where their service is most needed. “It’s very meaningful to us that you all came by to show support, especially at a time when the NYPD is in mourning,” he told the group. “It sure is a morale booster, and we greatly appreciate it,” he said.

The girls were accompanied on the visit by rabbis Benjy Stock and Laima Minkowitz, the administrators of Bais Rivkah, as well as by Gadi Hershkop, coordinator of the Crown Heights Shomrim.

Wow…that is just AMAZING!! Whenever I get a chance to interact with an officer I always try to show support and express condolences for the murdered officers. These men and women in blue risk their necks for our safety every day for a lousy paycheck and we as a community need to show them support. :)

    very nice kiddush hashem!

in some ways, it is like visiting the cops during their sitting shiva for two fallen officers. Beautiful act of kindness shown by our kids to support the heroic police officers who risk their lives to protect our community.

  • Very smart

In typical Jewish rachmunis this was a beautiful gesture. Thank you to whom ever thought of doing it.

  • So glad to hear of this!

I too have been trying very hard to be extra appreciative of the officers of the 71st, when I see them on the street, etc.

I also phoned the precinct (on their non-emergency phone number) to express my appreciation, on the day after the recent dramatic incident at 770. It is important that the police officers be given as much support and positive encouragement as possible, especially at this difficult time when the heinous protesters call for c”v against the police. And it’s also particularly difficult when our own mayor is trying to score points with the protestors’ ilk, by throwing our police officers under the bus.

Being a police officer is one of those jobs that I, for one, do not “have what it takes” to do, but which I am eternally grateful that there are those who do have what it takes, and they make this their career.

  • Silent Milhouse

In reaction to the police deaths Milhouse is silent. I believe that is his way of reluctantly expressing condolences.

  • In light of tragedy...

Thank you for representing our community in this way. I especially agree with
and appreciate the words of Mendel from Crown Street #2.
