Faced With COVID Related Staffing Issues, MTA Reduces Services

by CrownHeights.info

It’s Omicron’s fault.

The MTA has announced a staffing shortage this week due to the “COVID surge” which has plague every industry.

“This Monday through Thursday, trains will run less frequently than usual,” the MTA announced. “Like everyone in New York, we’ve been affected by the COVID surge. We’re taking proactive steps to provide the best, most consistent service we can.”

What the MTA means by this is that you may wait a little longer for your train as they reduce scheduled service.

“We’re able to re-allocate train crews where they’re needed, rather than cancel individual trips,” they explained. “We’re also working quickly to implement New York State’s revised quarantine guidelines for essential workers, which will help with staff shortages.”

The MTA joins a rapidly growing list of major manpower based businesses that are struggling as entire segments of their workforces are calling out sick.

The airline industry was hit exceptionally hard with over 7,000 flights canceled or delayed due to the crippling staff shortage.

Is it that workers are sick with the Omicron cold, and are staying at home to recuperate and not be contageous?
    OR
Is it that not enough workers can prove they got the COVID shot, so they are not allowed to work?
    OR
    Some of both?
