Borough Park Demonstrates Against New COVID Restrictions

They have had enough.

A group of nearly one hundred protesters showed up to the area of 13th Ave and 50th street in Borough Park Tuesday night in protest of Governor Cuomo’s new COVID-19 restrictions.

The large crowd chanting “Jews Lives Matter” symbolically burned a pile of masks, and blocked traffic.

When police officers arrived, the protest remained peaceful, with people complying with orders and allowing the FDNY to put out the fire.

The demonstrators included radio host Heshy Tishler, who became famous for his anti-restriction position in the Orthodox community. “We will not close,” was his message, and one that was repeated by the crowd.

Cuomo had announced his new restrictions Tuesday that the Orthodox community says came without dialogue.

“It’s 2020 and we’re literally red-lining Jewish communities,” New York City Councilman Kalman Yaeger wrote on Twitter. “Every effort we made to work with government to improve testing percentages was ignored. It’s very clear that our neighborhoods have fewer tests than others, but government refused to help us move those numbers.”
